VRS rubber car mats ... why is nothing simple? :(

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, could anyone please help?......I have been driving myself demented with my new set of 4 rubber skoda genuine car mats for my MK1 fabia VRS.  I just wonder if anyone else has experienced the same problem.  They come with a packet of plastic screws which you are supposed to use to pierce through the mats and fix down into the carpet to prevent movement.  OK here goes...

The confusing part is that in the fabia mk1 vrs (not sure if the same in all fabia mk1 models) there are fixings already in the carpet which open and close - they also seem impossible to remove from the floor without breaking them off (or does someone know how??).  I just want to lay the mats down on the floor flat which I can't because the stupid fixings in the floor prevent this...I don't really care about the movement as they will fit perfectly anyway.  I also noticed the clutch foot rest seems to need to come out to fit the main drivers side mat which wants to slide underneath but not easily and I'm frightened to force it.

Basically I cannot fit the rubber skoda genuine mats into my MK1 fabia vrs.  Don't think they make any other rubber mats for the fabia mk1 - does this mean they will never fit and I need to sent them back or has someone got a fix for this?  I am thinking that this is just a ploy to have people spend the extra money on the carpeted VRS logo mats because of the floor fixings already in place - I really don't want these mats as they will just wear out and be a nightmare to keep clean (if I can even still get them).

Thanks everyone for any help in advance.  I live in hope.   :)

Unscrew the twist fixings from the carpet and get some stud ones.

It's not that difficult.

Hi I honestly have tried, when turning them to loosen they just spin round and round without actually coming out the carpet.  Seems there is something underneath the carpet stopping them.  Thanks for your reply though.

Get some side cutters and wedge them under and cut them off.

Has anyone else got any ideas .............. someone must have come across this before?  Thanks !

Something wrong with mine?

There is a matching bit of plastic under the carpet that the twist grip is attached too. Just need to break that off. We had to do it when fitting the later style mats after they changed to the stud fitting.

I didn't realise there were such-a-thing as genuine rubber mats for the MK1 Fabia VRS as mine are all fully carpeted with removable top carpet (again) protectors with the VRS badge sewn onto them..

The only rubber visible is the drivers heel pad area..

Excuse the mess.

Stop being timid and just put some elbow grease into it, they come out pretty easily.
