great--second clutch in 60kmiles

Featured Replies

 ok two years ago my sdi gearbox collapsed and died on the motorway at 30k they said the clutch was badly warn and replaced that while the engine was out.(box done under warranty)

61k now and the damn things slipping up hills in third , is there a known fault with the hydrlolic system thats causing this premature wear ? i mean its an sdi !!!

the worst thing is that at least 9k of the last 30k is motorway driving

what could be causing this ? im tempted to get rid this time

:thumbdwn: Well abnormal. Especially for an SDI which pushes a lot less power than a vRS. Could it be a dodgy flywheel? Not sure what else to suggest. I'd be getting rid myself.

Are you sure the clutch was replaced, and the old one not put back in. Sceptical I know but it does sound odd that 2 clutches would be worn out.

I can only take their word for it , but ive got the receipt/work card so im going to have a word with the main dealer who did the job and skoda , ive also got an independent warranty so i may have some luck if i can prove the wear was caused by a faulty part (master cylinder maybe?)

Dont know about the clutches on SDi's but they eat gearboxes, you'd think being so un-powerfull they'd last forever, but no, their always going on the taxi fleet - one of the only unreliable parts on the SDi I have to say though.

I'm sure the box must be out of a 1.0 polo or something!

the dealer made out it was the first gearbox he had known fail on a fabia, maybe because there was customers in the showroom!

sure i saw a post somewhere (cant find in search) that the hydrolic system takes up too much play and can cause premature wear on the fabia

anyway skoda say they are looking into it , the actual dealer said the best they can do is treat it as a normal job unless there is proof of a fault causing the wear they quoted me
