Winter Wheels (warranty?)

Featured Replies

Current wheels 18 x 7.5" et 51 with 225/40 tyres - vRS TDI

Winter 17 x 7" et 45 with 225/45 tyres

- new wheel/tyre combination alright ?

- warranty issue ?

Thoughts much appreciated.

?

Do you mean will non OEM wheels invalidate a Manufacturers warranty?

Not likely if they are proper wheels, Type Approved road wheels for a car & with legal tyres.

Surely that is all you would be fitting anyway.

If you were elsewhere in the EU and neighbouring countries you may have to fit other wheels anyway and winter tyres that can take chains

and manufactures know that.

They even give recommendations on the sizes to use. and they are Type Approved.

I think the approved 17" wheel sizes for Octavia are:

  - 205/50 6J x R17 ET45 or ET48 - Approved for snow chains

  - 225/45 7.5J x R17 ET 51 - Not approved for snow chains

For me your choice looks fine & In the UK I guess the small difference in ET & wheel width is not important for the MOT.

Ran winter wheels for a number of years and different cars. Not once has a warranty claim been rejected with them on.

Most dealers do not even notice.

As above as long as they are type approved and your not claiming for the wheel then there should be no problems.

Check your insurance - some insurers regard winter/different size wheels as a modification and some will even refuse cover.
