Removing Brake Lights FL Octy II

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how easy it to remove the plastic panel of the brake lights, i know the bulb holder is super easy to take out but what about the red plastic panel?

The headlights are super straight forward so was hoping the tail lights would be too?

IIRC there are three screws which are accessed from where you remove the bulb holder. I think two looked relatively easy to deal with but the third looked more awkward to do without stripping out some trim. However others have swapped preFL clusters for FL ones and they'll know exactly what's involved.

Sarge has it right, but there are four.

Remove the bulb holder and you'll see four threaded bolts, 8mm if I remember correctly. Do not drop them or they are lost forever.

Back these off and then gently push the light cluster out and away from the car.Chances are the rubber seal/gasket that seals the lights to the body will be stuck to the car so be careful not to rip it.

Also be aware that there are two more bulbs that are not part of the main bulb holder, these are the two 3W bulbs that make up the 'C' shape of the tail lights and they simply pull out of the cluster but are tricky to reach. You can see the holes in the last two pictures.

This is the estate but the principals are all but identical...
