Hello just got keys to my first skoda.

Hello all.

I was on the look out for a practicle compact diesel to replace my crippling Volvo v40 1.9.

After a few failed attemps at various other cars in the firing line I stumbled across at my local used car dealer a Silver Fabia 2 on a 57 plate (registered otr feb 08), £3800 asking price, great body, as new condition inside and out, engine sounded great, only done 31000 miles!!!

Catch... no booklets or any paperwork present with car, hmmm.

Took the fabia for a drive and felt tight as a drum.

The fuel filter top was manky and corroded on the top (old) and the oil did not look recent - concerns raised.

Dealer stipulated that it was priced keane due to no paperwork or service history - only mot history printouts from the net to verify the mileage. "All my cars will have an engine service before they leave the garage he said".

I said I would take the car if you would still do the service but knock £300 off the asking to cover me to get the timing belt kit & water pump changed - as the belt should have been changed twice since new (every 61k or 48 months) and no records of this being done - no labels on cam cover etc.

Cut a lond story short, I secured the car with a oil change, timing belt kit and water pump change thrown in for the full asking price and 6 months warrenty.

And the best bit was, while waiting for the car to be back from the mechanics to have the works done to it, I contacted skoda service centre branch on the south coast by phone to check for any service history on the car and it turned out the car has - as near as makes no difference FULL skoda service history on the car.

Going to pay them a visit soon the obtain printouts of each of the service records held on the car.

On the whole very please with the car.

Going to be posting on a tech forum soon as the passenger electric window is non responsive and the passenger electric mirrors left to right movement does not work, my dealer is already on the case with the window fault but with the mirror I am going to look into. I seem to be reading alot regarding failing looms so I am not sure if these two faults are linked?

Anyways, thanks for reading and accepting me to the forum.

Best regards

Jamie

Welcome Jamie, that sounds like a good deal with the extras thrown in. The six month warranty should take car of any obvious things anyway but to find it has a legit service history is a nice bonus. I'm sure you'll get the rest sorted with a little help along the way from the Fabia forum :)
