VRS Grille

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

First post (hi) I've looked but can't find the answer to this (I did have a "man look", it may be out there somewhere)!

Currently awaiting delivery of my new Octavia VRS Estate on 1st September (time goes sooo slow).

Due to my job (events safety) I'll be fitting various warning beacons etc to the car.

Normally on my cars I have grille lights (same as Police, different colour) and in general they're an easy fit, but I've been reading that on the Octavia you can't remove the grille as it's part of the bumper.  Then I found this:

http://skodadop.com/en/octavia-iii-/eksterer-octavia-iii/skoda-octavia-iii-reshetka-radiatora-honeycomb-ki-r-v-stile-rs.html

So does this mean the grille is in fact removable?  Or would I have to break it off and replace it?

Thanks in advance for any help / advice!

Been posted on here before - it's a bumper off job.

Must be possible, all our Octy's at work have grille lights fitted.

The grille is welded into the bumper so the way to remove it is to cut it out but I don't see why you'd need to to fit lights behind it....

Thanks for your comments so far guys - looking like it'd have to be cut out - and my skills aren't up to doing that without risk of serious damage!!

I'm aware emergency service vehicles have them, so am guessing it's possible but thinking perhaps their mechanics just remove the bumper prior to fitting.

As for why they're needed behind the bumper - cos they'll look cr*p attached on the outside!!!

The grille is welded into the bumper so the way to remove it is to cut it out but I don't see why you'd need to to fit lights behind it....

-Look better behind,

-Less chance of accidental damage,

-Less chance of deliberate damage and/or theft,

-Avoids drilling holes and screwing them into the outside of the grille (which will reduce future value and compromise structure),

-No need to have specificly shaped fixings made for that specific light-grille combination,

-Not as visible when switched off for users that wish to remain as inconspicuous as possible...

Sorry posted from my phone and missed a couple of words out. I didn't question the need to fit the lights behind grille, I was questioning the the need to remove the grille to fit them as you'll have the bumper off anyway so just fit the lights then refit the bumper with the grille still attached.
