Bolero DAB radio problem

Featured Replies

I often use the DAB radio part of the Bolero system in my SE Fabia 111. Has anyone else found that if you are listening to one of the many DAB stations, when you stop and turn off the engine, when you restart, the radio system comes back onto the same channel but shows a symbol which I guess is poor reception and the volume level is low and you can not increase it. The situation is not fixed by turning the radio off and on again, it still shows poor reception. I have fiddled about and eventually recovered the good signal and normal sound strength. I think that changing to a different station and back again did the trick. Also, does anyone else find that the radio-tuning method is a bit too cumbersome when you are driving? Especially '5 Live Extra' which I have not been able to assign to a preset. Sometimes I want the old 5 push button system, it was mechanical and limited but there were only 5 channels in those days anyway.

Never had it do that to me! I don't listen to 5 Live, so can't comment on that, but had no trouble assigning presets.

Same, no issues with DAB apart from setting the stations to the national ones not Kent as for some reason these are more reliable even though i'm in Kent??

Haven't had any of those issues with the Bolero in our Monte.

I've just had a play with the dab on the Bolero in our 2016 model Fabia E:

Looking through the station list in the UK Midlands I can find Radio 4 Extra, or 5 Live, but not "5 Live Extra". (possibly I'm not looking hard enough...)

Anyway, regarding station selection, the presets scroll left/right revealing a total of 15 presets any of which can be set to the station you're listening to, by a long press of a preset position on the screen of the Bolero.

If the radio of the Bolero is in a mess, and you  can't over-write a preset, you can factory reset it in the menus - all presets are lost.

Regarding lost station on restarting, that has not happened, as far as I can recall. The only time I've seen poor signal indication is when listening to a "local" station and driving out of range.

For some reason 5 extra appears right at the bottom of the list on our older bolero rcd510 dab

I have the Amundsen+

I found that for 5 Live, I can set to to a preset, and when listening to it a message like

"Additional services available" shows up under the station name.

Pressing the central "select"button then switches it to the "5 Live Sports extra" channel.

To me, it's just as easy to get to as if I had been able to assign an additional preset to the "extra" channel.

not sure about your reception issue tho. Often when that symbol pops up mine switches over to the FM version of the same channel if one exists, so I can see why 5 live or any DAB only or regional station (when not in the area) would be an issue

The business with R5sx is quite odd:

this website

says the multiplex contents vary, with some content only being there when needed.

When R5Live sport extra is there it is there in it's own right, and as an additional service off radio 5 live.

The version which is there in its own right can be added to a button on the Bolero.

I have a couple of additional pictures, showing the arrow off to the right of radio 5 live in the station listing,

and the last one shows the two "additional programmes" BBC radio 5 live, and BBCR5SportX, which I will try and upload below.

Edited to add:

a brief switch off (a few minutes) and the Bolero carries on with BBC5RSportX without problems.

It's difficult to explain but I do not get the exact same display as you have shown. On the stations list as you show, 5 Live has a green arrow and I have to touch the arrow to get a drop down which is 5 live sports x.I can only get 5LSX by touching the green arrow, but when I try to put this on a pre-select button, the button shows  5 Live, not 5LSX. You show the button going to 5LSX. I think this might be the reason why 5LSX is lost when the ignition is turned off. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne. Maybe the transmitters are different across the country.

It is true that 5LSX is only broadcast at certain times. In Newcastle, it carries Test Match Special which I listen to and this is when I get the problem. I think that probably this is the only time the radio loses connection on restarting the car.

Sorry for the late reply.

As I understand it, 5LSX is on a BBC National DAB multiplex/ensemble - so it should be the same in Newcastle and Birmingham.

I've just tried again, starting from scratch: all DAB presets cleared, and DAB rescan.

5LSX is still second from the top of the BBC National DAB list, and when selected from that position on the list it will store on a preset.

One of the menus shows

device part number 5Q0035xxxA

yyyyware H24

zzzzware 0245

Perhaps yours is different?

Was the car built pre week 22 last year?

xxx in above to hide my specific car part number, and yyyy, zzzz bits I couldn't read on the picture I took....

DAB on my Bolero is fine. All the usual suspects, plus "Absolute 80s"...which is my default...and some Christian stations. Doesn't vary in this, supposed, backwater or Yorkshire, Northumberland, West Midlands or the lumpy bits of Derbyshire...so no reason to expect it to be any different anywhere.
