Cai

What are the benefits of having a CAI as opposed to a Green Cotton filter / standard filter ?

(Mods please move this if its in the wrong section)

For me there was no benefit with a cheap CAI. Less torque actually.

The Carbonio one is apparently good. Only if fitted before a remap tho.

To be honest I think a better soloution is to feed more cold air to the standard airbox, something ive been thinking about for a while after it was reccomend by a very knowledgeble VAG tuner in Galway (VST ;) )

drill a hole and add some ducting, with the various parts available form the likes of Demon Tweeks it can look well finished too...

Over the years of car ownership I've come to the conclusion that sometimes the factory gets it right (for road use anyway) in terms of induction tuning, sometimes a CAI can alter the air speed which either hampers performance as above or moves the gain somewhere else in the rev range. Which may be fine for track work but might actual harm everyday performance...

but they do look and sound great lol :D

I supose though a good custom mapper could make good use of a reputable CAI...

The £40 CAI gave a bit more of a tirque spike when the turbo came in but it then tailed off. With the standard airbox the torque stayed constant.

I've found that i've seen a far faster throttle responce since having the ABD Racing CAI that JBS supplied and fitted. But tbh its the sound i get that i love to hear(much improved DV noise) :D

When i recently had my custom re-map done by them was also told that it does make a significant difference to the final output figures - i take this as being true, otherwise why would they have bothered putting one on their Demo car.

HTH,

A good CAI does make a difference if fitted before a remap

Goochie, don't you think that might have been the prob with your CAI? Would be interesting to see some figures with the remap done after the CAI is fitted. My car certainly feels quicker and pulls really smoothly to the redline in every gear (haven't actually tried this in fifth!), with absolutely no sign of a torque spike.
