Cavvy SRI 70k M reg

Any thoughts? Basically just things like estimated value assuming in good inck (been told immaculate)

Any thoughts on the 2 litre block? reliability? desirability? Someone's offered me a swap for one for pretty much all my ICE, so assessing the market beforehand.

Any insights please?

Pretty much a bullet proof engine IIRC, and 130 bhp in an old car like that means it fair shifts, I'd reckon about 8 secs 0-60 and a good top end of about 130 mph. Desirable? Well its a Cavalier, so I'd guess that doesn't really come into it. Oh, and they don't really handle either.

Is it an 8v or 16v?

Walk away !!!

Dad had the 2.0-16v engine in his Calibra and that was a very nice engine. Plenty of low down torque and good for 60 in about 7.5 seconds and 130+mph :D

Walk away !!!

Any further reasons for that please? Any info welcome. All I know is its a 2.0 SRI - didn't know they came with 2 different engines. All I've been told is as above, and that it is immaculate, I'd be happy to just be able to get

They are supposed to be one of the most reliable old cars you can get!

In my past I've had a 2.0 8V SRI and the 2.0 GSI Cav's

Both were good reliable engines, book price at the moment, no idea i'm afraid!

If it's the 8v, it's not a rocket, but they are a fairly solid, simple engine. The highest average speed UK journey I've ever been on was as a passenger in an old SRi Cavalier. They go on forever, but beware of under-steer (and no-steer in the wet!).

I'm not in it for the handling. Its purely a "swap it for my ICE and move on a.s.a.p" - I might try using it for a couple of weeks until the V5 comes through though. :D

I just wondered if I was getting myself into a duffer. I have a good feeling about it though, and it gets all my ICE out of my hair.

It'll be good fun. The guy who owned the Mk3 Sri had a 1.8 Mk2 Sri. I really liked that car, it was just as fast as it was lighter and looked good in an 80's kind of way.

If it's an M reg it will have the 16v 136bhp Ecotek engine which repaced the 115/130bhp 2.0 8v for MY93.

looked good in an 80's kind of way.

Like Octavias!

Cavaliers and Calibras only shared the same engines on and after '94. 16v ecotec engine are sh?t!!

Eh? The original Calibra had the XE 16v, just like the Astra and Cavalier from the late 80s.

Which one was the "red top" was that the 150 bhp engine?

That was the one to have, apparently.

I had an SRI 130Bhp 8v and the engine is great, loads of torque (8V has that advantage) good for 8 and a bit 0-60.

The SRi handles much better than the normal models too.

I sold it with 128K on and 3 years later I saw the car and it still looked good.

If the body is ok I would say go for it.

If the taxi companies use a car it is usual tough and reliable, Cavaliers were very popular cabs

I'd agree - I had an 8v SRI and a 4x4 (same SEV engine). Fast and reliable cars.

I'd have a look and then make up my mind, check for rust around any weak points. Give the jacking points a good looking at to make sure they are solid. Give it a run, keep an eye on the temps etc.

Just go into it with your eyes open, if in doubt say no I'd like cash please. :D

The GSI2000 - also available in 4x4

Not the same engine as the Ecotec.

if its a mint example you could get around

Early ones had the 2.0litre 8 valve engine in various guises - most notably 130bhp variant and were ok.

Later ones had 2.0 Litre ecotec engine (pretty sure 8 valve but may be wrong) and power figure is argued the world over. Whats not argued is the fact that ecotecs are not very good and less desirable. In saying that, you would still be able to sell it for
