octavia vrs intermittent problems

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm after a bit of help with my vrs.. For awhile it seems as if it's been holding back on power and struggles when under hard accerlation as if the turbo is not working iv had the engine management light flash on and off and then go completely off..also every now and then the car bellows smoke out the exhaust and drips but it doesn't happen all the time I have replaced the n75 valve and maf sensor and still the problem are there.

I was told my sills on the turbo could be gone but surely the problem would be constant??

Any help would be really appreciated many thanks stu

If the EML has flashed there should be a fault code stored. So 1st you need to get it read for codes.

My guess is you have a split boost/vacuum pipe somewhere as it's an extremely common problem on these engines & causes turbo boost issues.

Thanks for the advice it's being plugged in later today.

I forgot to say as well that iv replaced the s shaped pipe behind the dipstick about 5 times in the last 2 years with genuine parts but the keep splitting or collapsing.. Once it's been plugged in il post what codes pop up

If the same part keeps failing then there is an issue somewhere else causing it to fail. Could be a build up of pressure in the vacuum/breather system, blocked PCV valve etc

Quick update.. my vrs was plugged in and there seems to be a problem with it losing pressure between throttle and turbo but he didn't tell me what the code was after doing a bit of research it seems as if the problem could well be a split pipe or something along these lines and he advised me to do the recirculation bypass and the n249 bypass.. is there any benefits from doing any of these and if so how do I do it? I have seen some information about how to do it but as I'm not that competent I'm not sure if it's something I can do myself or if I should ask a garage to do it for me?

The code will have been 17705.

Easiest thing is to replace all the small braided vacuum pipes. The S pipe under the inlet manifold is notorious for splitting too.

With the engine at idle have listen for hissing sounds in the engine bay, & that may point you to the problem.

Iv had someone look at it today and he noticed that there was no oil in it which it weird as it was only topped up less than a month ago.. He revved it up in front of his garage door and now there's condensation black marks all up his door and he suspects that the turbo is on its way out

Could be; the "James Bond" oil consumption is more like a litre per mile than one per week though.

No oil is bad of course, but nothing to do with you getting 17705 (pressure drop between turbo & throttle).

Could be running rich. Is there any blue smoke when you rev the engine?

Yea it does smoke but it's not all the time that it does it

does anyone know if a turbo off a audi a4 will fit it? I'm told it's just a case of reclocking the turbo housing
