Hello Folks,

I recently went in for the 2016 version of the Superb with the L&K trim. The infotainment system here in India comes with a single SD card reader and you have to plug in your phone using either Android Auto or Mirrorlink to access maps on the display. For a gizmo loaded car like this, attaching the phone via a cable to access this feature looks antiquated. I understand they also have a variant of the infotainment system (called Amudsen or something similar) where maps are integrated and you don't need to plug in your phone.

Is there any way I can upgrade my system to this Amudsen/equivalent system. The basic idea is to use Maps without plugging in the phone.

Thanks.

This must be a country based thing as L&K spec in the UK would give you the Columbus Infotainment unit with larger screen and CD/DVD player in the glove-box and 2 SD card slots for use as music etc the unit has a hard drive with all the Sat Nav data stored on it and is higher end then the Amundsen which doesn't give you the CD/DVD player and uses 1 of the 2 SD card slots permanently for the Sat Nav maps.

Do you just have the one sd card reader for music then. I looked at the spec of the Indian l&k and due to the cheaper list prices, it's got limited specs v Europe specs

There's one app for maps which you can use with mirror link i think which you have to pay for but you get to download the maps rather than use data...

You can also download the maps for google maps but I think it is for the local area only.

Google maps now lets you download much larger areas. I've got most of the UK on my phone (omitting the parts I'd never visit). OP, as someone else said it's a country based decision from Skoda. How many Lacs is the Superb over there? I imagine it comes out quite cheap compared to Euro spec (when you make the currency exchange).

The mapping App you need is called HERE Maps. You can download the whole country in one, or in your case (because of the size of India) probably by the state / district also. Once downloaded it is free to use with or without data. Also, if you took a trip to Japan or Australia, you simply download the map for the country/area you are visiting (before you leave) and you are sorted on landing, no data required. It works well with Android Auto as well, much better than Goggles own attempt.

Clearly you do need GPS for it to work and as most phones have that it shouldn't be such an issue. An alternative independent GPS /Bluetooth device will be more accurate and won't run your phones battery down either.

HERE Maps are a fallout company from the Nokia meltdown under Microsoft and have just been signed up by the big 3 German Auto giants (BMW, Daimler & VAG) to provide mapping for all their future in car navigating. No bad thing as it's top grade mapping with excellent voice guidance.

As a final point, it has all the local data stored on the map as well, like hospitals, banks, places to eat and shopping centers etc. It all works without data.

Have a go and let us know what you think.

Thanks all for your response.

Yes, mine has only one SD card slot and there is no CD/DVD slot as well. Skoda claims that is now obsolete. I will try the HERE Maps, but again my phone needs to be connected via the cable to the car at all times. Isn't it ?

CD drive is dropped in the amudesen unit and with Sat nav you get 2x sd card slots.

One for audio mp3 and other fornsat nav maps
