My Fabia Releasing black smoke

Hi All,

I have Skoda fabia Classic 1.4 Tdi Diesel 2009 model.

I need you to discuss here the reasons of car releasing black smoke.

I have read somewhere it means car is consuming more fuel than usual not sure about its causes.

Actually, I drove my car in heavy rain for around 30 miles( with water logged on roads as well) and just after reaching home I parked my Fabia with handbreak(rear breaks) applied and have not driven for approx 1 month.

Today when I tried to move my car I find that my rear wheels are jammed and not moving at all even after giving full acceleration.

I called local mechanic and He just loosen up all the bolts of both rear tires and after that it started moving.

But still I am facing below problems now while driving it.

1. Car releasing Black smoke - it never happened with my car till date and I have driven it around 1.2 lacs miles.

2. Little high noise from engine than usual.

3. Car steering is little heavy and not giving me that driving comfort which I earlier it was.

Please help if anybody have faced such problems.

Thanks,

Chirag

Sounds like it needs a good drive after being sat around for a month. This will help with the brakes and the charge level of the battery (causing heavy steering) and give it a good clear out. If smoke is still occurring I'd check the coolant temp sensor values with VCDS and see if that's reading right. Assuming it's boosting ok and no abnormal whooshing noises? If it's noisy and down on power check the boost hoses are secure and not split.

As above, black smoke is usually caused by over-fuelling. If the car hasn't been modified the most likely cause of this is a loss of boost pressure (and hence power). Start by checking the turbo - intercooler - manifold pipework joints are connected.

The handbrake probably stuck on as a result of being left for a month. If it's at all possible leave it with the HB off and the wheels chocked in future.

PAS - We'd really be guessing here without VCDS fault codes. Checking the fluid level is free and easy though (and yes I know Fabias have "electric" PAS: This means that the hydraulic pump is driven by an electric motor when assistance is required and not connected to the auxiliary drive belt).
