Underfuelling?

Featured Replies

Since having my dragon digital tuning box fitted, I've noticed a big gain in power and torque. Despite this, after having a few observation tests at the last Brisky meet in the NW, it would seem that my car still doesn't smoke when I go to WOT. Does this mean there's still room to put more fuel in and crank up the power a tad more?

Cheers

i have a digital dragon box on my furby vrs on setting 16 and dont get much smoke if any. used to initially when i first put the box on, but then that was in warmer weather. the colder air means the fuel is been burnt more efficiently or something like that. not a techy!

It's cold at the moment, so it's less likely to smoke - during the summer it may smoke a lot and you may have to turn it down a touch perhaps to avoid excessive smoke when not booting it about :)

bigger injectors perhaps they wont effect how the box works.

try some iridium spark plugs........ they may help achieve a cleaner burn.....

if you want more smoke try some oily rags wrapped around the downpipe.

I suggest NOT spark plugs!

Paul probably remembers the thread but others may not. A Fabia vRS owner did seriously ask the question about fitting uprated spark plugs.

 yup still makes me grin.

owner not a bright spark then.

Possibly. Dragon have tested their box to safe limits so by stepping outside them, you risk running too higher temperatures in the cylinder which can cause damage. This time of year is good because the air is cold and dense which means the fuel going in can be combusted more completely (less soot), but you may find as the weather gets warmer, the car becomes sootier.

Interestingly, I ran an analog box on my PD100 and it didn't smoke at all irrespective of the weather or the quality of fuel I used. It did have 53k miles on when I bought it though which may have a factor....
