In doubt: black magic or corrida red with Stratos, Helios or Zeus rims

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I recently ordered a Skoda Superb Combi here in Belgium in black magic with 17" Zeus rims. As this is a company car, I am not able to choose the much nicer 18" or 19" rims so I have to stick with the default rims that come with the Style version here in Belgium. Style is right below L&K trim level. 17" options are:

Zeus on black car: post-145226-0-13622900-1472158458_thumb.jpg

Stratos on black car: post-145226-0-13278600-1472158457_thumb.jpg

Helios on red car: post-145226-0-70363400-1472158455_thumb.jpg

Based on the computer generated pictures of the car configurator, I chose the Zeus rims over the other as they looked bigger then the other ones. But just recently I passed a dealer in my hometown and they had a combi in their showroom with the Stratos rims and in real life they look much nicer then in the configurator or on any other picture. I am still able to change my order and am really breaking my head over this. Which one do you think is nicer and please tell me why. Your opinions might help me make a final decision :)

Having said that, I also started having doubts on the color black magic. I was lead by my wife saying she likes such big cars with sunset windows and chrome accents in black. While this is true, I'm really starting to fall in love with corrida red for this car. What do you think?

Thanks in advance guys!

its tough choice..

I went though the same questions regarding the wheels.

i have a business grey with the Zeus wheels.

I also have a Skoda Rapid Spaceback in Corrida Red too.

First wheels..

In my opinion the decision should be between the Stratos or the Zeus wheels.  I am not a fan of the Helios as the ridge on the face to me breaks the size of the 17 inch rim further. however in fairness theres not much in it between them and the Zeus.

The Stratos... These wheels do look nice however i think there are too many spokes on a small wheel on a big car. Also, they remind me of typical SE spec'ed car wheels... like the Mk5 Golf as an example or a S40 Volvo.

Couple of photos of mine for you..

Colour choice.

Black.. looks nice when clean, 10 mins of damp driving and that shine is gone, stone chips are easy to spot and swirl marks stand out a mile.

The Red... its nice and bold and when clean and polished stands out well on out Spaceback. Yes it lacks the metallic flake sparkle however its boldness over comes this compared to the Pacific Blue.

I would of maybe gone for the Red if i didnt alreay have a MY16 Rapid Spaceback.

And the red on a different car... in overcast conditions... car had 12 miles on it when these photos were taken.

@RickTT great reply! Really interesting view on the rims and really good points regarding the color! And oh boy the replies I get from family and friends when I say I plan to change color to red. Noone understands it ????

Stratos and black. Red does, IMHO, NOT fit on a big "exclusive" car like the Superb. So, Black Magic, Magnetic Brown or Jungle Green.

The default for the trim level I bought was a stratos, I think it does look much better as it looks more elegant to me. More premium like if you know what I mean.

But ofc, all personal tastes :)

Your opinion is wrong lol !

Black is not a colour...it is an absence of taste and style. Silver is merely a desire to blend in with the flock.

Brown is cool and different. J Green is different and quirky.

As for Red on "Exclusive" cars, (the Superb barely qualifies)...I recently saw a year old Bentley Mulsanne in very Red and it looked stunning. You don't get much more exclusive that the Flying B. Go for the colour YOU want. No-one else needs to travel in the car if they find the colour a problem.

This comes from someone who has just had 4 years of brown car... Believe me, not one person commented on how cool or different it was!

I've had many positive comments on my Magnetic Brown Superb with Beige leather 280 L&K Hatch, its all down to personal taste at the end of the day.

Heading slightly to corrida red with zeus and then today I saw a black Combi parked in Ypres. Brand new, dirty, but still beautiful car but really afraid for swirls as it's going to be carwash for me...

If your main concern is to conceal dirt or swirls then IMHO the best colours are business grey or silver.

T .

The magnetic brown is a nice colour (I nearly ordered it) but its not really a "brown brown" it's almost black in some lights. My comment was more about brown cars in general...... But mainly because of the dig at black.... My black superb arrived two days ago!!

From black to red to grey; this topic is getting interesting :)

I am reliably informed that there are 50 shades of grey....

Rumor has it yes :)

I would of had Black, but my last car (Fabia Monte Carlo) was black so wanted something different, both colours really pop in bright sunlight so best get your cleaning kit out ;)

I just wished that Skoda UK made available ALL the "special colours" that are available to buyers in the Skoda home market.

Personal opinions and circle of friends and acquaintances will, of course, garner different reactions. My Topaz Brown Fabia attracts lots of admiring comments...but I bought it because I liked the colour.

My dig at Black was not personal to you, as I'm sure you realise.

I will pick the color I want, obviously. Problem is: I like the car in different trims and have difficulties making decisions in life. Colors are personal, but was curious on how you feel about certain colors on this car and what reasons you have. Any personal views on the rims? :)

At least black is likely to remain an option, even in the increasingly limited Skoda colour palette!  As mentioned on another thread here, lava (petrol) blue is possibly being discontinued, so along with Rosso, that's too of the nicest colours gone.

Re the OP question - I agree with some of the comments above - choose what suits you.  Colour (and indeed wheel combinations and interiors for that matter) will always be highly subjective and we'll all offer many varying opinions on threads like these.  As long as you avoid an extreme colour (only available in the Czech anyway) and don't have it wrapped in some obnoxious shade, I wouldn't be overly concerned about resale.

Resale not an issue as it's a lease
