Blackberry Playbook - is this a record ?

Featured Replies

My 2012 Playbook 32GB has just been re-charged for 1118 th time on the original li-po battery.

The highest number of re-charges I could find on the web was just over 500 !

And its still going strong, although accessing the modern internet can be problematic because there haven't been any software updates to the main components since Blackberry withdrew support in 2014, everything else functions OK, mail, WP and spreadsheets, You Tube (Just about), radio streaming, navigation apps.

The vital statistics for the battery (Not connected to charger):-

Battery Health 77%.

Voltage: 3.9 v.

Power: 1.94 watts

Recharge Count: 1118.

The only things to have gone U/S are both cameras (The case was slightly damaged in the vicinity of the camera lenses when dropped - possibily repairable as I understand the electrical leads just pop-off their connectors) and the micro USB charging/comms socket (Fatigue failure) - i have been re-charging using the desktop cradle (Repaired) or the fast charger that uses the three-point magnetic link.

From what I understand, the critical point is when the start-up battery voltage is reduced to 3.6 volts or less, then it won't start - I have had a replacement battery standing by in anticipation of the thing turnkng its toes up, but it still goes on. But at this rate of depletion of capacity, there's ptobably another 12- 18 months left in the original. Some sources on the web indicate that the original battery can be partially restored using the programmable chargers that the moldelling fraternity use. True ?

Any one else on here got one that's still going ?

Slightly different but I just mothballed my old Blackberry Pearl 9105 handset after about 6 years with constant daily use. Battery still lasts for about 6 days with plenty of use during the day for calls and texts. I put a new sim card in from another network and use it as my back up phone now.

Well my Nexus 7 2012 hasn't been charged nearly as much as your playbook and the battery is totally fubar.

Software also fubar but at least I can change the battery without a massive amount of work.
