help with a/c pollen filter

Featured Replies

Hi , as title sujests where is the pollen filter, how easy is it to change. not doing my chest any good.

Piece of cake.

Under the glovebox.

Remove the lower trim piece from under the glovebox (2 clips to unscrew then pull out) & slide the pollen filter lower cover to the side & then remove, pull out the pollen filter, fit new, refit lower cover & trim.  job done. Expect a few leaves & other rubbish to fall out onto the floor mat.  :D

Is there another filter (referred to as the cabin filter?) that is used by the ac system? If so, where is it?

Really puzzled why the owner's manual doesn't tell you where the pollen filter is and how to change it.

No it's the same thing just a different name.

Ah right, I saw this YouTube video and thought there was another filter in addition to the one under the glove box:

That's a MK1 Octavia.

Anyone care to opine on the best pollen filter to buy when replacing? Bosch sell what they call anti-bacterial filters which may help the unpleasant smell which occasionally comes through my air vents shortly after having the air con on.

The pollen filter is befor the evaporator so it won't have a bearing on the smell.

Any idea what smell could be and how to stop it? It smells like sweaty socks. Last 2 air con services have only mildly improved it.

The last time my air con smelt the same as yours after switching it off, I purchased an air con cleaner from Halfords.  Turn on the engine and put the air con on recycle and on full. Turn the air con cleaner on behind the passenger seats and close the doors for 10mins. The smell has gone.

It will be bacteria/mould on the surface of the evaporator. It needs to be cleaned with something like this..

Comma AIRCC 150ml Air Con Cleaner https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000ZBOPVO/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_fUPWxbKFWW2BG

Or the dealer version which works a lot better

Neither of which are usually part of an air con service unless stated. Any savvy dealer would add it as an option but then suffer the barrage of usual comments of ripping people off and snake oil etc etc so a lot don't bother now.

Remember is using something like the above and putting it on recycle it is imperative that the pollen filter is removed first and the cover refitted.

Thanks for the help, took it out today, don't think it has ever been out before because of the amount of debris that fell on the floor, as warned by Mikey. the filter was so blocked that I was surprised that any air got through. would advise anybody that hasn't cleaned the filter to do so as it must help  the system.

I replace mine with a cheapy every 12 months.  Well worth it.

I had left mine in for 2 years & considering how black & dirty it was im amazed any air was getting through it.  :D

The aircon service people let off a deodorant bombe. Too much.

I used a long squirt of Neutradol ,on the recirculate mode, when I last changed my pollen filter. Much less pongy.

The original one fitted to my 2.0pd Scout was a Mann CUK 2939/1
