New Octavia 3 owner...a few questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have recenly bought my 2013 Octavia vRS Estate, and I love it. I have a few questions and I'm hoping a bit of light could be shed on these:

  • My car appears not to have cruise control fitted. Can this be retro-fitted?
  • Can power assisted boot be retro-fitted?
  • I am quite interested in a few options that the VCDS coding offers, would having this done invalidate my Skoda Warranty?
  • I would like to change the interior and some exterior bulbs to LED (indicators, interior lights and red door lights). Can these be simply swapped or is coding required for this?

Thanks in advance, and please have a look at my thread link in my signature if you get chance.

LD :)

should have cruise control as standard I would of thought? that is confusing!

Mark.

Not standard until 2014. Mine is 2013 and doesn't have it. Yes can be fitted but it's 200+ can't remember exactly how much they quoted me. May have it done in the future but at the time didn't bother

Yes the 'early' mk3 vrs models were poorly specced hence no cruise and Nav wasn't usually fitted.

As above. Cruise can be fitted - I paid near £300 on my previous SE. Navigation only standard on vRS from early 2016. Bolero only then replaced as standard by Amundsen.

My vote's for Pictorus wheels too - no sharp edges for the lacquer to start peeling from!

Nice motor - which dealer?

You might not want the power boot. It is a nice feature, but the struts tend to leak and I've heard they are £500 to replace.

Ah that is interesting about the early 3's being low specced.

I must admit when I was looking I really wanted Gemini's but these have grown on me. I'm thinking a colour change (dark grey or black) with some new centrecaps may just finish them off nicely.

Thanks mate, Vantage Skoda in Morcambe :)

I can't believe Skoda were so tight when the mk3 came out! my mk2 had cruise control as standard!

Its a carefully crafted art - new model comes out so the excitement of the new features and looks pull in the buyers. After a year or so when the excitement has died down then they slowly increase spec to tempt new buyers, people thinking of trading in their one year old car and also to keep up with the competition.

They save the best until last with run out models like the 230 that open the 'spec' floodgates just before the facelift and then it start again, but with new spec filtered down from VW and Audi - heated steering wheel, black lit display etc

Cruse control can be fitted depending on what steering wheel you have. Its about 300 pounds skoda will do this. I was offered this when looking at an secondhand se, in the end i bought an se business with it fitted.

This is totally true. Nice option spoiled by poor components

Thanks for that folks, if anyone can shed any light the below questions I would be very grateful :)

Coding is required for exterior LED bulbs. There are CANBUS compatible LEDs that don't require coding, but I've heard they have heat and reliability problems. Not sure about interior. There are a few big LED threads that have lots of info.

As for warranty, that depends on the dealer and your local laws. Some are fine with it, though you may lose warranty on any features that you alter. Some may say deny all warranty coverage.
