Mk4 Golf R32

Featured Replies

What are all your views on the Mk4 Golf R32 then.

i have driven one this week along with a Focus ST,BMW 330Ci Sport,Megane 225 Trophy.

All in the name of research as i'm selling the Boxster and the CBR600 so i can economise and buy a place and land.

So some constructive viewsplease.

I'm very interested in a mk IV R32 as my next car too - am starting to book some test drives in. Trying the Focus ST tomorrow and popping along to a VW dealer with a couple of R32s in stock for a mooch around.

For some more info, try the R32 section on the Tyresmoke forum or alternatively, the R32 register (forum). Lots of useful info on them plus some great movies of R32's with straight through Milltek exhausts - the sound alone will make you want one!

Any one else with any views/comments?

I drove one yesterday and loved it.

i drove the Focus ST again today aswell and it is a great car but the R32 has it for me due to the engine sound,4WD and that there is hardly any of them around.

i think i've read somewhere that VW only imported approx 2400 of them.

where abouts are you in the UK?

Looks tasty, already seen one in Manchester. Looks agressive, I like it.

Was reading about it in Evo, and a few of their testers said they'd rather keep the £4k and get the GTi? That the GTi seemed more focused and nimble, probably due to the extra weight of the 4Motion system.

Will be interested to see what you think of it. IMO, a desirable bit of kit nonetheless :)

Steve

I'm in warwick...

I know what you mean about the R32 being rare - certainly don't see them very often. And I'm quite keen on 4wd as well, largely due to too much power through the front wheels on the fabia. But most of all, it's the noise that I want!

And you get the feeling that the Focus ST will be a very common car within a short space of time, which will no doubt be affecting resale values too!

I agree with you there Dave, I'd certainly like my next car to be 4WD. But I might stick to the derv I think! Current shape A3 2.0TDI Sport Quattro would do nicely. Just need to find that

If you're comparing it to the Fungus ST, Megane etc. are these not all new generation cars? The mk4 Golf has been out of production a while now.

Or was it a typo and you mean the mk5 R32?

I've not driven one of these, but as you have Alex, how do you think they compare?

For info. the mk5 R32 should be a lot smoother riding and generally much more refined than the mk4 which was brought in more as an out and out sports model to counter the critics that said mk4 Golfs were too soft. The mk4 is harsh riding and very vocal, but has great character.

I did mean mk4 - not too keen on the mk5 really and can't be bothered losing out on depreciation on a new car either! I do like certain parts of the mk5 like the interior, the side profile and from what I hear, the handling will be good. However, I don't really like the front or rear design, especially those clio 182-esque exhausts!

I like the mk4 because:

i) those on sale now have dropped into a sensible price bracket so I won't loose out as much on depreciation etc - not a fan of buying new unless the price is right.

ii) I will be putting a milltek exhaust on and will probably look at the AMD stage 2/3 upgrades - that will be an extra c.

Just need to find that

Mk1V R32  I definetely wouldn't say no!

Mk V R32  I would have to see one in the flesh before making any judgements.

I'd personally rather have a GTI than an R32 if we're talking MK5, but if not... A Bi-Turbo MK4 R32 is high on my list of wants :)

Have to be the Mk4 R32 have driven the Mk5 R32 and its like all new cars,to refined.

Very very nice don't get me wrong but after the Boxster i'm looking for something that isn't perfect and has a edge to its behaviour/handling.

But i still want to keep a big capacity engine and the V6 sounds great reminds me of my Corrado VR6!!!!!

Mk4 R32

Love them, test driven one and the sound is just awesome, I could have one just for the sound. Not to mention the seats, the subtle yet damn sexy styling, the list is endless.

Definently a car I would be looking at if I was that tad older (insurance :( )

And a milltek straight through system on them, oh god, now were talking

Mk IV R32 is a beast any VW with the V6 lump in it sound samazing but the MK IV sounds puuuurfect. Considering one as next car along with S3

and lets not add they are the tealeafs favorite at the moment so youll need another couple of k for insurance

Not too bad actually Col... I'm currently paying just over £600 for my modded fabia and I can get insured on the R32 through elephant for £760 with a milltek and £900 through greenlight with milltek, remap and uprated cams! A lot better than I thought it would be!
