Boot not closing properly

Featured Replies

Hello to all

I'm just back from a 2 week trip to France towing a trailer tent and having a great family holiday.

While abroad, the boot started acting up. It no longer closes properly. It's a hatch and it appears not to be catching on the right hand side (as you look at the rear of the car). Hopefully there is a fix for this out there that doesn't involve me making a trip to a dealer.

Any tips much appreciated.

Adrian

I suspect it's the wiring through the twindoor hinge - this seems to be the cause of most of the problems people see with the twindoor boot. There are a few threads on this around the forum here.

I've taken a look at the wire threads and I don't seem to have that issue. It appears mechanical. When I close the boot the right hand side doesn't go down as far as the left hand side. When I open the the boot it defaults to the hatch back opening mode (the whole boot lifts up). If I press down on the boot however, the right side seems to engage some motor, the indicators flash orange and the boot opens as the saloon now. I can close it as the saloon and it will open as the saloon until I press the secondary boot button to flash the brake light twice and then it opens as hatch back, And the whole process starts again.

I hope that makes sense. It should do to any owner who has had this issue.

Was the boot full to capacity at some point during your holiday?

The issue with the Superb is mechanical levered hooks pivot over a latch on each side of the boot and pull it closed. Sounds like one of the hooks is no longer aligned properly and is missing the latch.

Mine isn't as bad as yours but I fear I have damaged / stretched it. I was carrying something in the boot, when shutting the hatch it made contact with the contents of the boot preventing it from shutting. Instead of opening the boot and moving the contents I did what all blokes do, opened the boot and slammed it. This was enough for the boot to lock but I suspect I've strained one of the catches. Silly mistake.

Mine still shuts but the drivers side latch makes a mild graunching noise when operating.
