Superb Gearbox

Featured Replies

When i put my Superb into 2nd and 3rd gear and let out the clutch, the gearlever jumps slightly .It feels like the 'box is flexing when taking up the strain and causing the gear stick to jump back into my hand.{like it has a broken mount}

If you put it into 2nd, let out the clutch and push the throttle up and down it bounces around like a yo-yo.

Is this normal?

It feels cheap and nasty.

HL Austins demo car had the same problem / trait.

Mines ok, and nothing like that.

What dealer do you use , and are you local?

This came to my attention in Ireland and the Skoda dealer over there said it was'nt right.

HL Austin it would appear haven't sold enough Superbs to have an opinion.

Its the only 'niggle i have with an otherwise perfect car.{but after 3000 miles is starting to P... me off}.

If your dealer cant tell you if its wrong/a trait what do you do?

Cheers

Buy a vRS ....................oh sorry Steve , buy another vRS :D

I haven't had any problems like this, like Kentish, I too have a TDI 130, don't know if you have the same Steve, or even a petrol model ?

:D Hello Mellow!!!!!

Vince i have the 100bhp TDi. Next week im going to Worthing for the day , so i'll pop in to the dealers down there and see what they have to say.

I test drove a 2.5 TDi Superb with a friend he has a Tdi Octy and i have the vRS, we both liked the car a lot except for one thing and that was the manual Gearbox, both the clutch action and the gearchange were nothing like the Octy and it was difficult to drive smoothly. we both commented that if we were to get one it would have to be an auto rather than the manual. It may have been a rogue one or a bit new but it has always stuck in my mind.

Paul :)

I have heard that the 2.5 tdi and 6 speed box can be a bit of a beast, but mine has the 5 speed, and I cant fault it for smoothness and easy slick changes.

I would add further that I can say for certain that the box is heaps better than the 5 speed in my old Octy tdi (90hp) which exhibited the usual VW trait of difficult into reverse and first sometimes, whereas the Superb box has been faultless so far.

Oh and by the way, my dealer is Sherlodge.

It was the six speed we drove.

Our Seat Alhambra TDi also has a six speed gearbox and that has a good change. One thing i have noticed with the TDi's that i have driven is that the clutch seems to be slightly sharper on engagement than the petrol equivalents, almost stalled a couple of the Diesels on first driving. Sure you get used to it like any other.

Went to see Worthing dealer today and the car goes in next week. {They've never had this problem and think it must be an engine/gearbox mount.}

Steve

P.S Should a new car need the Head lining steam cleaned 'cos someone has left greasy hand prints all over it{ still looks awful}, also have ripples in the bonnet {so did the 3 other Superbs } that have to be sorted by a specialist panel beater AND have the problem mentioned above?

Also when HL Austin put the car on the ramp to try and find out what was going on , i found a nice big 12-18" lash in the underside of the bodywork {so deep it has dented the chassis rail}which they tried to blame the wife for!

Thing is she is also 'into her cars' and would have known if she had ground out.

I love the after care Skoda provide.

If in doubt deny there's a problem and blame the 'bird for the rest of it{after all women dont know anything about cars ,do they.}.

Having bought two new cars from them in the last 2 years im a little? upset.

Steve :)
