Question about cooling capacity

Featured Replies

Hi

I am unsure how much cooling i should expect from the aircondition. If it is 30 degrees celcius outside and i set the temperature to "Low" or 17-18 degrees, what temperature should i expect inside the car after 10-20 mins with the car moving?

I got one of those upgraded units, where you can set the temperature inside the car (1 zone).

You set the interior temperature with the knob. If set it to 22 degrees it will cool to 22 degrees.

Dont do that. Set the temparature at 4-5ºC below outside temp or you will catch a cold and eventually die.

I understand i set the temp with the knob. Outside it was around 30ºC and i set it to 20ºC, but it never went below 25-26ºC. This is normal behaviour? All windows closed ofc.

I thought it was kinda like electrical cooling boxes for food or something, that only allow to cool 5 or 6 degrees below outside temperature. So if it 20ºC outside it can cool to 15ºC etc.

If its 30C outside and the sun is blaring on the car you are going to struggle to get the car down to 18C, its just too much heat. You can of course offset the temperature by blowing the cold air at you as the air coming out of the vents on even a hot day will probably be well under 10C

I think it is asking a huge amount of the relatively small aircon system in a Fabia to drop 12degrees...and hold it...in full-on Australian sun. The amount of solar gain must, surely, outgun the aircon's capabilities. My old Volvo would probably cope with it, but had a) much better thermal insulation...for Nordic winters, and B) a hefty diesel engine driving a fairly big lump of a compressor and heat exchanger.

Physics is awful hard to beat.

I have been using my air conditioning on the automatic setting (button next to demist) seems to cool the car down ok though you may have tried that Joe

Usually run for a few minutes on max cooling with the windows down to expell some hot air out of the car

If you put it in recirculate after it has cooled down to a point you think isn't getting any cooler it doesn't have to cool the warm air outside constantly and put it into the cabin, it's cooling the the same air constantly so has no problem getting the temp down.
