Fabia Turbo issues

Hello,

Just wondering where the best place would be to purchase a GT1749va Garrett turbo for a PD130 ASZ engine, it seems google is flooded with turbo sellers however i just would like to buy from a renowned company. Any experiences?

i don't wish to go hybrid, it had a hybrid begining of March wish developed a fault, the replacement hybrid turbo was fitted today and when started bellowed blue smoke out its arse. i just want it back standard and normal again.

Thanks in advance

Where did you get the hybrid turbo if I might ask?

Do a search on here, lots of places to get quality turbo like AET or turbo dynamics. I wouldn't be put off by this bad experience, hybrid from reputable company will last at least the same time as stock one.

I'm in the same shoes, I fitted a hybrid back in April and it's been having issues since and now i've gone back to standard turbo and it drives a lot better, only thing is that I now have all the supporting mods to run a hybrid at around 220bhp-235bhp so I mite have to go back to a hybrid soon, but this time from somewhere more reputable!

Blue smoke is oil, probably from the previous turbo that went pop, if you or the garage didn't clean out the intercooler and all the pipework then it'll take a while to burn it all off.

Most re occurring turbo issues come down to not identifying why the turbo failed in the first place and/or correctly rectifying issues arising from turbo failure (oil/debris in the inlet tract etc).

What software were you running after the hybrid was installed?

Hello thanks for the replies,

The standard turbo i first took off the car was in full working order albeit had a whine so i replaced with an Xman GT17/52 hybrid. In all fairness the turbo was running very well and pulled great power 216bhp although my torque was very flat as i had a slipping clutch. After 4 months of waiting i had put a new clutch on and drove it back up to Narco to have the mapping continued but the stop screw etc was covered in soot and for some reason offered no adjustment to allow the full potential of the turbo.

Adam of Narco contacted Xman while i was out the workshop to arrange a new Hybrid to be sent down to me promplty, which it was this time a GT17/56 hybrid (Told this is a more robust item). This was fitted today and within 15 mins received a call from the garage to tell me its bellowing smoke out its tail when it never did this previously. Can only be a fault with this new turbo.

Now have to send both Turbos back to Xman to get a refund so i can buy a standard turbo. The whole process has been a disaster and just want it back normal.... ish

As I said before I wouldn't be put off by bad experience with hybrid, just get it from reputable company. Of course that comes with price...There is a reason why his turbos are so cheap...

I had 3 in my Octavia, first was blowing oil through the oil seal in into the exhaust, second didn't want to come on boost, third a bit better than second but had whining noise. You get the picture I'm sure.

Had fitted proper hybrid and am happy bunny ever since, pulling 186hp and 322lb/ft on very conservative map (PD140, hybrid similar to 1749VB).

Yea i know what you mean genuinley gutted though as the car was relentless with all the extra power.

I purchased a turbo today, stock PD150 from midland turbos, they seemed incredibly knowledgeable and offered a very competitive price along with 2 years warranty. Having a read i should be close to 190bhp with my other supporting mods without pushing the turbo too much.

hopefully less lag as the hybrid, obviously much less performance but i guess wont be straining the engine so much.

Good news, let us know how you get on with the PD150.
