Central locking with doors still opened

Featured Replies

I had a situation last night which surprised me. Went to a party, car full of people and stuff to bring and so plenty of trips between the house and the car. When I take the last thing from the car, hit the lock button on the remote, I hear the locks engaging and also double check the rear right side door being next to it, it's locked. 2 hours later somebody warns me that my left side rear door is opened. Indeed somebody didn't pushed it with enough force to engage the lock. But what surprised me was that I didn't get any feedback that the car was not fully locked what I used the remote. Am I supposed to check every door before leaving?

At my previous car when a door was not closed properly and I was trying to lock the car, the lights were doing a long blink (the signal for car is locked) and then 2 short blinks that the car is unlocked. I could also hear the locks engaging and disengaging and also none of the doors were locked. I actually had a problem with that when someone rear ended me and the boot was not closing properly preventing my car from locking. So I was expecting at least one of those feedbacks.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, all the topics that came out when searching for central locking were about faulty systems.

After a second reading of the manual I found this, last phrase on the page 49:

If the doors or the boot lid remain open after the vehicle has been locked, the turn signal lights do not flash until they have been closed.

(People who write manuals should not put important information at the end of the page)

So the signal of car not being locked is the lack of any signal. It may be this, I can't say that I saw or did not see the flashing signal only hearing the other locks made me think that everything is in order. I will test this tonight.

Not the best system of messaging the drive is it, you wonder if they could have introduced a fast flash or something similar.  At least you know what to look out for now, no flashing.  Sounds like the censor looking at a Carry On film!   :x

I was going to say about the flash thing - it is this that always alerts me to an open door.

Just tried mine.

Lock the car with a back door open using remote, hear locks lock and lights do not flash or horn beep.

Close unlocked rear door and that door locks and lights flash with horn beep.

All doors then locked without touching remote.

Interesting, as I would have thought that the rear door not closed would not lock on closing.
