Eibach pro sport on original dampers?

Featured Replies

Hey all

Apologies if this has been covered or answered before but just want some opinions on this.

I am considering putting some eibach pro's 30mm on my CR VRS and keeping the standard dampers. I am aware that the standard factory drop is 15mm but my aim is to achieve a good compromise between ride height and comfort.

I just can't help but feel the car looks like it's sat up too high and it's becoming more obvious now, the further I mod it.

My question is, budget permitting, would it be better to shell out and get new dampers to compliment the eibachs, such as Koni FSD's or something of that ilk?

Or, just get the eibachs alone? What ever I do, I intend to fit my whiteline RARB to go with, then do a wheel allingment as a job lot.

What do we reckon?

How many miles have your current dampers covered?

Hi Damian

Car has done approx 71K

My 2p.

If it were me, I'd change the dampers as well. Just because of the mileage you've done and while you've got everything apart it'll be nice and easy.

Have you thought about a Bilstein B12 kit - Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers?

I have actually yes and appreciate your 2p's worth. However, these kits, unless you can point me to a cracking deal, can be very expensive and at this present time, waaaaaaaay over budget.

I have seen that they offer a 30mm front/rear drop which is what I'm after. Perhaps some folk say £600+ is a fair price to pay.

Can't point you to a link at the moment, but when I was looking to buy a B12 kit I found that you could get them cheaper buying from Germany, even including the postage. If you work out the part number of the kit you need, you can use that as a search on eBay and have a look at the international sellers.

However I appreciate the budgetary issues. Personally I don't think the £600 is too bad - when you've added up buying the parts from an OEM you get pretty close.

Maybe its worth getting the springs now and change the dampers later?

First port of call for me would be to change the dampers to match the springs.

The Whiteline rear ARB will make a big difference as well but as most people have mentioned definitely change the dampers at the same time as the springs.

Cheers both for your input. Really appreciated. Erm, ok I will look at some online/oveseas retailers unless of course Damian will put an offer up in the future regarding a B12 kit for a VRS TDI ;)

By the way, are these kits harsh? What I mean is, I'm prepared to take a little drop in comfort at the expense of better handling/performance but don't want to feel like my spine is attached to every bump in the road.

No worries.

I'm sure Damian will give you a quote :)

With respect to harshness of ride, from what I have seen on the forums they are firmer but not harsh when compared to the original suspension. I have a Fiesta which has Eibach springs but OEM dampers and it handles better, the ride is firmer, but it definitely isn't uncomfortable. I think part of the benefit of upgrading the dampers is that they are better matched to the springs so should be better.

We always try to beat any like for like UK quote but when it comes to prices from Germany we usually can't compete I'm afraid

The only thing I would say is that if you do buy from Germany be aware that any issues down the line and you will need to send the parts back to Germany for warranty so make sure you go for a well known seller.
