Oil leaks : synthetic oil proof gasket sealant

Featured Replies

Been running pure synthetic oil in 3 different cars for over 10 years and never had a leek so looks like a solution looking for a non existent problem to me.

Though may make it easier for anyone who has to do a rebuild

Agree

Those into souped up older cars involving rebuilds and using the latest oils, I suspect.

For some it could be useful to know what can happen with synthetic oils.

If the job is done correctly then sealant isn't required in most cases anyway, the only time it should be used is when the manufacturer specifies it's usage. Pretty much all RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanising - I think) is oil proof anyway.

I'm just glad I don't have to take off a cam cover these days, let alone anything more involved.
