Air Condition ongoing issue

Featured Replies

I own an Octavia 1.6 TDI 2010. I purchased this car 3 years ago and the air conditioning has never lasted more than a few weeks. I have had it regassed a couple times and it has always lasted a few weeks. It was also pressure tested with no leaks found. I went for about a year without any Aircon until a couple of months ago when I thought I would have one more go at repairing it. I decided to purchase a new condenser in the hope that this was the issue. It was fitted by a mechanic and it was as good as new and three weeks later it was still going strong and then as soon as i said that it stopped working.

I'm now hoping I can at least narrow down the issues and get a bit closer to finding out why I'm loosing the gas.

Can anyone tell me what else could be going wrong now? It's must have a leak somewhere!

Thanks Sam

Did the garage put any dye in the refrigerant? I had a similar issue and had the compressor changed. It worked for a while then stopped working. It turned out to be the heater unit itself wasnt working properly. So the garage changed it for me and now is working fine. I had all that done under guarantee by Evans Halshaw and is worth a look. I would use vagcom or vcds to see if any fault codes are logged and also see what the heater unit is doing.

I'm pretty sure that the dye was run through and with no issues. I could replace the compressor too but it's all coming out of my pocket and I said to myself if it wasn't the condenser I would stop trying! I may have lied to myself as I'm pretty close to trying one more time it's just what to do next?

Need to find where the dye is then if some was put in.
