Tracker for L&k Estate after break-in next door?

Featured Replies

** Noob mistake - posted in the wrong forum - that's embarrasing: can an admin move it to the Superb one pelase **

Good evening all.

I have a week old L&K Superb 190 TDI DSG estate.  I disturbed burglars at my neighbours house about 2 weeks ago - they were looking for the keys for his BMWs on the drive and cash, luckily finding neither.  I got lightly beaten up for my trouble, but all is well.

I am now keeping all car keys in a key safe.  However I was wondering if my new car might be a target, and should I think about a tracker?  We know how good the cars are, but would a self respecting burglar want my Superb?

Looking at the cost, monitored trackers seem to cost £250-400 plus £100+ p.a.  That's a lot of dosh.

Thoughts?

I have a Quartix https://www.quartix.net/ tracker on my Superb. Apart from current location and status it also gives driving style - acceleration, braking, speeds, all routes etc. I'm not really sure on the cost as mine's a company car so not my expense.

Other things to think about are do you really want the car back if it's been stolen anyway - chances are it wasn't driven carefully..

I think the money would put put to better use on other security measures before I would bother with a tracker. Like some big gates, CCTV and other deterrents. You want to stop them from pinching it in the first place, not try and find it afterwards when its too late.

The above poster has a point but then trackers are handy shouldthe thief lay there hands on it.

Alot of it will be dependant on how much you spend.

We use a realitvly cheap system on our fleet at Work

Something like £99 to buy and £60 a year subscription.

BUT these arent full proof as they just use the OBD socket.

Which works for us, as we use it to keep tabs on vehicles where abouts etc.

Should they be stolen we go only track should a thief think about looking for it...

it might even be worth speaking to your insurance company and see if any trackers incurr some discount?

I would have some 'tracker fitted' type stickers made up and put on the car. Thats the kind of thing I would do with my motorbikes, I didnt want them stolen but at the same time I didnt want a stolen recovered bike returned to me! Making the car less desirable and more hassle is worthwhile.

At never thought of that.... i guess you wouldnt wat it back...

I hated the idea of a potentially damaged and abused bike being brought back to me, worth less than it was, with a flag against it on the hpi check etc. Id have to declare it anyways so Id rather have the cash than the hassle. However, if its brand new it might be a good idea to invest in some 3rd party gap insurance ao that you can cover the shortfall when the insurance try to pull your pants down.

I think putting the keys in the safe was a good move and your a decent guy for helping your neighbour out. Those guys likely werent joyriders, someone wanted those Beemers for a purpose or parts. Try and relax and dont let it take the shine off your new toy!
