Getting frustrated with Albums on SD card

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have put some albums on an SD card and placed them in separate folders according to Artist, my problem is that when albums show on screen they are not in artist order, eg. I have many albums of David Bowie, but they don't appear after each other, it seems the Bolero just shows all the albums from all the artists in alphabetical order and is very frustrating if I want to go to the next album. Is there any way I can get the Bolero to show the albums under each artist? Any help would be most appreciated.

I have separate folders for say all Fleetwood Mac, titled that. In there are all the album's. For individual albums just put that artists name in front.worked for me.

Yes, You have a root folder containing all the artists, then you have a second folder with all the albums and then a third folder with all the tracks.

I presume you have copied all the music from your computer. Presumably you have a similar folder structure there so I would wipe the SD card clean and start again using that as a template. If you want to play all the tracks randomly then put a single track , even if it just 10 seconds of silence on the root folder, then press mix and you will have a random selection of all the tracks on the card.

As far as I know, Bolero (Amundsen) does not give a flying ***k about the folders on the card. You can just shove everything in the root directory for all I know. What it runs on is the ID3 tags so whatever effect is intended, it needs to be achieved by ID3 tagging. I somewhat believe that whenever people report folders having any effect it is just a coincidence with their ID3 tags as most songs are somewhat ID3 tagged anyway so you may just get lucky.

I think I'll have to look at the ID3 tags Pickard

Thanks for replies, I'll have to (sigh) try again.

It works for me on my Bolero, root folder for all the artists i.e. Fleetwood mac                                                                     Genesis

                                                                                           /                      \                                                                    /                         \

Albums                                   Rumours         Tango in the Night                                  Invisible Touch        And then there were three

                                                                                 /                  \               /                   \                                  /                  \                          /                          \

Tracks                          The Chain    Dreams    Big Love        Little Lies                 In Too Deep    Domino            The Lady Lies     Follow you Follow me

The folders should be in that sort of order with the root folder at the top. I put my SD card into my computer and then just copy and paste the artists over to the SD card with the albums and then tracks automatically taken over in their correct positions. Press on the artist then the album list appears, press on the album and the track list appears.

Is that what you did Don?

Ian

When I've used SD cards I've put an artist folder, then albums folder, then tracks but with the track filename starting 001, 002, 003 etc

Same here and that works for me on my MIB1 Amundsen.

Are you guys absolutely positive that what you are describing is because of the folder structure and not because of the ID3 tags luckily matching your intention? For example, if you, say, move the "In Rock" folder/album from your Deep Purple master folder into your Led Zeppelin master folder, will it now show under Led Zeppelin on Amundsen/Bolero?

Or will it rather remain under Deep Purple as they are ID3 tagged as Album Artist in each individual song belonging to that album?

That is what they are like on my card, Artist, then albums, then tracks in each album. The problem is that when you look at the screen and navigate through the albums they show in alphabetical order, eg. Aladdin Sane,Annie Lennox, Hunky dory, etc, I would like them to be under Artist, then I can flick through the albums for that particular artist. eg Annie Lennox- albums Medusa, Annie Lennox collection etc, Bowie- albums Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, Man who sold the world etc. Is this possible?

Anybody have any solutions?

I have my whole music library on iTunes saved as mp3 files.

I have a Bolero (RCD510?), RNS510 and RNS310 in the family, all have music on SD cards in folders e:/artist/album/track with all 'various artists' type albums in a separate folder e:/compilations/album name.

It all works very well.

Anybody have any solutions?

Why not create folders for each artist, and then put their albums in the appropriate folder.

That's what most others have done. It works well :)

I didn't bother. I've listed them in alphabetical order on the computer and copied the whole lot onto a 32gig card. Starts at A and I just navigate to who I want to listen to or just leave it on random. Sometimes it's a track, sometimes it's an album...

Anybody have any solutions?

YES!

You can see what the head unit is doing by listing the SD card contents in a command line window under windows. Basically, a "DIR" command shows the files in the order "found" by the h/u. Which is the order in which they were added. It's a low level FAT sort of thing.

I used Anerty's DRIVESORT to re-FAT the USB key I am using. The issue is I'll have to do it again if I add files or folders.

EDIT: Possibly this is not quite the same problem reported by the OP.....

Are you having these problems when using the album art flip display (aka 'Coverflow') on the current Bolero/Amundsen?

I'm just happy that my $A30 Aldi 64gb micro SC card works perfectly in shuffle otherwise I'd be lost attempting to personalise it into a breakup of albums and artists.

Hi Citigopher,

The coverflow works fine and it's the latest Bolero headset, it's just I would have liked to have seen the albums under each artist alphabetically, instead of it showing all of them alphabetically. I think I'll just have to put up with it or forego the coverflow and show the albums under artist instead. With new technology it should be easier to sort this out not make it more frustrating!!

Thanks for all replies and if anyone manages to get it sorted please let me know !!
