My Fabia TDI Elegance

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all.

New to the forum had my little fabia 6 months now and due a MOT.

I'm due a cambelt and my clutch release bearing is noisy so I have decided to keep this car and do the work to it.

Does anyone know what flywheel comes standard? ATD engine?

Can I put the PD 130 turbo and injectors into this or is the PD100 gearbox or block not strong enough to cope?

Anything else I should be looking to do at the same time? Head gasket? Head bolts?

Sorry for all the questions!

I love my little fabia even though she is scruffy

Hello, I'm afraid I cannot answer 100% confidently however I believe the PD100's have a single mass flywheel. With regards to the noisy clutch release bearing, how do you know this needs sorting? Is it noisy? I ask because the clutch release bearings and the input shaft bearings on the 5 speed boxes are commonly mixed up.... If you have a noisy bearing noise with the clutch RELEASED, and at all points when the gearbox is engaged, i'm afraid this is you input shaft bearing and will require to split the box to sort (massive job obviously). If the bearing noise is when the clutch is depressed, it is indeed the release bearing.

Mine has had a noisy input shaft bearing for nearly 30k now and has not got any worse.

Can't help with any of the other questions I'm afraid.

Mike.

By the sounds of it must be my input shaft bearing.

I assume this is a common problem If I buy another box what's the chance it will be the same?

Guessing I can't push 150+ bhp out of these boxes then.

Half tempted to just run this into the ground and buy a Ibiza cupra when i got more.

Yeh pretty common unfortunately. I would not personally push any more through it. I would also not recommend getting a second hand box as you can't be sure it won't happen to that one. Two options: 1) Leave it be, it will probably be ok for a good while, or 2) sort it now.

Like I say, I have put 27k miles on mine with a noisy input shaft bearing and it has not got noticeably worse.

Check gearbox oil level, a noisy bearing may cause the oil seal to fail making the problem worse.
