Verifying 90 or 105 hp

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a nearly new diesel 105 hp Fabia Estate. Is there any obvious way to tell which power a car is? I'm a little sceptical about the advertising accuracy sometimes and don't want to travel to see a wrongly described model.

Thanks

If you give me the registration I can check it.

The difference between the 2 engines is very minimal. Id be suprised if you could tell the difference if you drove them back to back

If it's a DSG box then it's a 90ps as they don't do the DSG in the 105ps engined car.

This may be a silly question, but are they both in the same VED band?

I've checked some registrations vs. g/CO2, which is what made me suspect what was being advertised.

Check for the engine code on the sticker in the spare wheel carrier. CUSB is 90ps, CUTA is 105ps.

I think the OP is looking for something that doesn't involve them travelling to the car.

Thanks, useful to know when I do view.

CO2 is tricky as autotrader etc will list the standard for the model but that doesn't include optional extras - for example spare wheel normally increases it by a couple of grams!

Surely the easiest way to check is to create a comparethemarket insurance quote (or similar), and just change the reg each time and their database should know if it's 90 or 105?

Having a spare wheel doesn't affect the official Co2 figures. Just the Alloy wheel size.

Er, some Festers have different VED classes depending on whether or not they have a standard full-size spare wheel.

Thats fine, but we're talking about using the co2 figure to work out if a Fabia is 90ps or 105ps?

True; my point is that it is possible for factory options to affect CO2 figures.

Yep it definitely is. In the case of the Skoda Fabia the size of the alloy wheels affect the co2 emissions.

I've noticed that generally the 105hp versions have that info detailed in the car's name - e.g Fabia Hatchback 1.4 TDI 105 SEL. The lower powered ones I've seen advertised only have 1.4 TDI. Same goes for the insurance websites.

On Autotrader the 74 bhp, 89 bhp or 104 bhp ones for sale look all correct as i can see.  Plenty advertised right now.

Just be sure to get the seller to check what they are selling and explain you do not want a wasted journey.

Thanks for the advice, 1 year old car ordered this morning for collection at the weekend.  I'll start my next question in a new thread...

The insurance pages seemed to be the easiest way to get the car spec confirmed
