Apple Take-over of McLaren! ?

Featured Replies

So the motoring press seem to think that McLaren is soon to be bought out by Apple. I have read a few reports, which confusingly mention the Car Division and the Technology Division as the one to be taken over, but for what it;s worth, here is an Autocar news clip

Apple to buy McLaren?

Hopefully they won't brand the F1 team apple.

It's probably just their road technology division and not the sports car and racing divisions?

McLaren denial

I'm sure at one point they & Williams were in the frame to help with their ambitions of an Apple car via their technology divisions.

It's probably just this.

McApple just sounds wrong anyway :D

Apple Mac has a nice (familiar) ring to it.

I so wish I had thought of that :D

They were once rumoured to be interested in acquiring Raspberry Pie.*

So could yet end up as Mc Apple Pie :D

* didn't Alphabet (Google) buy raspberry pie?

Knowing Apple if you bought a new McLaren you'd have to buy the key separately

The McLaren P1, now available with Beats Audio. But no Aux jack.

will the new model be a iP2 ?,  and all future model will have  the i  prefix.

does it have an ituned engine?

Will it have a pratnav that insists that you have to follow the routes it wants, and refuses to let you do anything if you try and go some other way?

Will it need "iOil" that costs £40/litre?

Apple MacLaren hybrid, it's great but every couple of years they keep changing the plug.

I imaging they were just taking investment and brand association. So they'd build a MacLaren and the ICE would be running MacOS.

Will the new owner be Granny Smith ?

They will have the courage to remove the brakes, as while they are common, slowing down and accelerating again is bad for the environment (and take up space/profits)

Denial, the first form of acceptance.

Will apple make McClarens crash less often?

Shame they'll hang instead though.

Perhaps someone at McLaren was accidentally overheard saying "it needs to be Lightning, quick!" and it all got a bit out of hand.

Corporations like Apple have that much wealth to spend they just keep trying to spend and get into other markets.

I wonder if they looked at buying VW cheaply, or buying parts of the VW Group like Porsche or Audi.

There could be a bargain to be had if you do not need to take on their liabilities and legal issues.

Wouldn't that result in something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_McQueen ? :D
