Numberplate Light

Featured Replies

I've just tried to change a numberplate light on my 2001 Octy Estate.

When I tried to push the new bulb into place, the holder got pussed back into the cavity between the inner and outer of the rear tailgate!

I've tried to remove the black plastic inside cover to the tailgate, but it will not budge.

Now I not only have a numberplate light that does not work, but a new bulb rattling about the tailgate!

How the **** do you remove the inner plastic tailgate cover?:(

I took mine off a couple of years ago to remove broken glass. I seem to recall that you have to remove the top plastic trim, then the 2 side ones, followed by the main panel. Use a plastic wedge or similar to gently lever the push-in clips free, starting at one corner and working around the trim. Getting the bits off is easy but replacing the top one is difficult. It should be obvious looking at them to work out which to remove first if I have got the order wrong.

Mine did that, made me mad!

Had to take the back off as Denis says, and put glue on both of the bulb holders for next time.

Stupid design!

Glue is a good tip, Thanks

The easiest way, dont go at them from the outside at all, open the boot, prise the bottom of the big plastic trim out of its clips, bend it away enough to fit your arm up there and change the bulbs, push the bulb holder back in, smack the bottom back home again with your hand. Done. You can take that big plastic trim all the way off if you like, but putting it back on is even trickier!
