26K to spend. New Octy 4x4 or 1yo Volvo XC60 AWD?

That article says it's 108mm wider than the old model! Is it just me, or is that not a positive point? How wide does a car need to be? Imagine the door dings it will attract from the little darlings in Tesco.

Don't answer, I can sense the oncoming flame already.

They are probably targeting the U.S. market

I would look at 3 year old examples of both and see which holds its value better. Other than that, it's all about the drive and which you prefer surely?

I misread the original post, I thought you were looking at a V60. As for the XC60 it was on my shortlist and I like a lot about it. However, I took one for a test drive and hated the steering. It seemed to become heavier the quicker you drove and around bends felt distinctively unpleasant. I had almost made my mind up so was very disappointed

I guess a 3008 Allure is outside your budget.

If so, stay away perhaps

I have a recently acquired 54 plate 2.0tdi manual Octavia estate elegance and my dad has a 16 plate xc60 d5 auto 2wd, which I also drive regularly.

They both drive really nicely, both seem to have similar oomph, especially overtaking on Welsh A roads. Octy gets 55mpg easy, Volvo 42mpg driving carefully. Ride quality is very similar.

Reasonably similar levels of kit, but wish I had xenon headlights. The dials and buttons on the Volvo are less clear when driving and require you to look down which is not ideal, I find Octavia much better even when I just got it. Octy has more boot space, but the outside of the Volvo is wider.

Try both, the Volvo is nice, but I prefer the octy. I would have quite liked the 4x4 version too. Also, look at a 2yr old one with low miles and send me the £7k you save ;-)
