Hexcan or hexnet fabia 3

Featured Replies

Looking at a vcds but don't know which version

I think the net is more future proof but that's limited to 10 vins unless you pay big bucks

Is the hexcan ok for a fabia 3 which is my car

as currently the friends I have that have vag cars non are newer than 2014 at the minute

Ross tech mentions that some of the controller's on mqb platform need the later unit

Thanks in advance

They will both be fine for the Fabia (I have both)

Some cars like the new shape A4 are indeed running into problems with the HEX+CAN

Oh bother, I thought that while NET was where things were going, there is no notice being given yet as to where car support from HEX CAN will stop platform wise. I think that I read trading up to NET from HEX CAN is going to be very expensive when compared with trading up to HEX CAN from VAG COM.

Right I'll get a hex can ordered thanks every one

On their Forum Ross-Tech are hinting that on MQB2 platform cars, such as the Audi B9 A4, they are starting to see things that interfaces other than the HEX-NET may not be able to support.

So for a long-term purchase HEX-NET seems to be the way to go - BTW you can still connect this with a USB cable to a PC running VCDS, you don't have to use it only via WiFi.

Well that makes a bit more sense, but I would have thought that all data would then only exist remotely and would need to be taken back onboard each time you opened it - otherwise what has changed between NET and preNET? Most legit owners of current VCDS will be getting notified when they start their computers or failing that when they open VCDS that there is a newer version ready to download.

at the minute the hexnet seems very expensive for 10vins even more so for unlimited

Hypothetically if I changed my laptop once I bought one it's not tied to the hardware by chance is ???

No, I am on my 4th or 5th laptop / netbook / tablet.

When you use the HEX-NET in VCDS Mobile mode (i.e. using a web browser) then that's true, but when you connect it using a USB cable to a PC then all the data is on the PC as you're using the copy of VCDS installed on the PC.

I've gone for HEX-NET (10 VIN version) for future proofing.

BTW the other benefit is that HEX-NET is quite a lot faster than the cable only leads.
