Disappointing scoring

Featured Replies

:wavey: :D

Bit miffed, perhaps unjustifiably so, that my PC is folding WUs that are scoring a lot worse than I was doing a couple of weeks back. It had been doing 600 pointers, taking 3.5 to 4 days to do one, which was giving me 150+ PPD (points per day), not bad for a mere XP2200+.

Now its downloading smaller WUs and I'm only getting 40 odd points for perhaps 12 to 18 hours folding. Over 4 days this only means I'm scoring around 200 points at best, not 600. I noticed in task manager its only using 40mb of memory at the moment, whereas its usually using 100mb odd on the big WUs.

Its still set to allow 5mb WUs. Anyone else receicing "crap ones" to do and seen their rate drop. Not sure what I can do about it as the type of WU you're sent is not controllable by the user... AFAIK anyway? :(

yup - noticed the same myself... had a 'rash' of low scorers lately - in the last 7 days, have completed 10 WUs on one machine... none of which scored more than 120 points.... on the other machine, haven't had a 600 pointer this year! Just loads of little 40-50 point ones.... means my average is dropping like a stone too lol.....

spose we just gotta grin and bear it?

Same hear not had anything scoring more than approx 150 points :(

39 41 51 51 51 39 39 and a possible 600 on my amd 700 which is going to take ages to do :(

You'll find this is the way it goes - points go up/down in trends, depending on the type of WU the assignment servers give out.

If you have a look at the top teams you will see the graphs screaming up then back down again, depending on the points thing going on.

Nothing you can do about that in a way that does not hurt the project however.

I have noticed this to, I just put a couple of extra machines in to keep up the PPD figure.

Its not just me then *sighs

Paul was whining about this last Thursday night too

I noticed this too on Sunday.

Only have a slow laptop running at home though (Celron 2.7 ghz) so my figures are NEVER going to be that good.

But if most people could do this then we're on our way.

 Thats the spirit everyone should have. Hoping to possibly re-add my old athlon 750, but I'll need to ask its new owner first, and maybe only run it at 50-60% of CPU power.

That might explain why my 24hr average has dropped by 400 points :( That or the fact Plusnet keep monkeying about with my ADSL connection

Chris

Be interesting to see what my 24Hr average maybe then, when the servers decide to give WU of a bigger variety ;)

Me thinks SkodaW's will be @ 2000 average at this rate - keep up the good work.

I've now got 11 cpu's working @ emmerdale - all P4's of different varieties :)

got an 'ancient' laptop I'm thinking of adding... it would do folding and nothing else.... not sure whether to do it tho cos it's only a P2 300 with 96MB of ram!! I remember the days that was considered fast LOL... wonder how long it would take to process a meaty work unit ;)

Hmm, am thinking the servers have been listening, i've just recently completed two wu's and got 600 points - took my 24hr bk up over 900 ;)

Still cant break the 1000 barrier yet though lol

The opposite for me - I seem to be getting small scores(less than 200) don't know why - as I've allowed for download of over 5mb - shouldnt that mean I get bigger WU's ???

Don't know about that - theres only a 2 point difference - it say's I wont overtake you untill 2011 :finger:

Everyone else still getting rubbish scoring WUs too?

yup

biggest one I've had this year was 135 points... my average has dropped thru the floor!!!

just had a look at my folding stats - tells a story!

Points WUs

2,042 18 08/01/2006

1,109 18 15/01/2006

small points scorers = half as many points in the same time as larger ones! Seems the days of me getting a 24hr average over 200 are well gone.... was averaging over 400 at one point!

just got two 250s so they shoud be worth 600 each

my 2 are working on 135 and 149 point WUs now... biggest ones I've had for a while! Last 600 I had was 3 weeks ago.....

but - I'm glad SOMEONE is getting good scorers ;) and as they say... every little helps!!
