Use a short length of pipe e.g. 1m of garden hose.

Stick one end to your ear and seek out the source of the sound with the other end.

Be careful not to catch any moving parts with the probing end, could be terminal!

Cheers a used a mechanics stethoscope still couldn't find were the noise was coming from.

To say the least it did sound mostly from the cam cover but who nos could be anywhere

?

How many miles has this engine done, 

and what servicing history does it have other than Oil & Filter changes?

Serviced for every test + clutch oil pump oil cooler , turbos. And all general running stuff.

Did you use silicone RTV instant gasket?

Hi all a no it's been awhile but just to finish this thread a have replaced the whole engine so from a BXE engine to a BLS engine could anyone give me the heads up if this is a better engine thanks.
