Suspect blown turbo?

Featured Replies

Was driving along heard a popping sound thought oh dear boost pipe must have gone drove home. (Cars driving like a 1.9d with no turbo it's a vrs) engine managements come on checked top boost pipe all is sound looked at bottom and there's oil dripping that's past the jubilee clip on the 90 bend before the intercooler ( it's a silicone bend jubilee clipped over standard metal pipe) any ideas?

Could be just a coincidence and the drip of oil could just be from a small air leak that has let oil seep out of it.

Either way you should inspect the turbo before even starting up the car again.

Is there any easy way to inspect the turbo with out taking it off?

Yeah, jack her up, pull off the turbo intake pipe and inspect the turbo with a mirror or camera etc.

Ok cheers gunna have to be done after work 2 moz now it's getting dark. Why do things break when the nights draw in. Thanks for the help as always

Could be the pipe going into the cooler has popped off, they usually drip oil from round there. But as said take the intake pipe of to the turbo and use a phone to snap some pics then you'll be about to see any compressor damage

None of the pipes are off I've replaced them all with stainless and silicone hoses

Just had my mate out with his computer. It's making boost but only 900 desired boost is 1049 if memory serves right. It's vacuuming so don't think there's a leak so next step is jack her up an see if waste gate is moving freely any other suggestions?

Yes, it doesn't have a waste gate. Good luck with that plan.

Take the TIP off and LOOK at the impeller with your EYES like jars suggested, then grip the impeller nut with your fingers and give it a pull and a wiggle, significant play means it's a goner.

Turbos shagged going to get it off tomorrow. Is it best to drop it down the bottom or can u take the inlet manifold off and pull it up the back? I've done a golf before that way looks tight on the skoda though

Inlet manifold off and through the top. The turbos tiny on these lol.

They are aren't they. The shaft snapped and fins blown off on exhaust side. Just sent my Dad on his motorbike to pick up a turbo from stoke on Trent. I will get a tub of oil and a new filter in the morning an put it all back together. Got to replace cv joints as well. Then hopefully it doesn't break all through the winter. Can I block off the EGR pipe from the exhaust and keep the top bit of I take the baffle out? Or do I need to replace with the straight pipe kit?

You're just pure evil, no-one should ever have to go to Stoke, fancy sending your poor old dad there.
