Octy II Parking Sensors

Help !!! - Has anyone else had there Parking sensors stop working

I have a Mar 05 Octavia Elegance estate fitted with front and rear parking sensors.

Today i was parked in a car park facing a barrier - when i parked the car - sensors were fine - indicating close to barrier

When i returned 2 hours later got in and started car and the parking sensors came on as per usual when i engaged reverse but imitted a high pitched beep (higher than normal) and the display on the radio disappeared - at the same time the Parking sensor light on the button on the centre console started to flash ? :(

anyone any ideas ?

Cheers

Kev

Mine didn't do a great job last night when I backed into a BMW in a dark carpark.

No damage to my motor but scratches on his. I think it was a combination of the corner of my bumper being really close to the corner of his bumper as i turned so the sensors didn't pick it up until the very last minute but then it was too late. Says he's not worried but in the cold light of day things may be different. Will hear tomorrow. Chequebook at the ready. Lesson learned. Don't trust the parking sensors.

Yes, sometimes when wet or frosty. I ve always assumed the water confuses it. Always fixed itself soon after.

Sorry to hear that. I must bear that in mind.

Ouch! :( When I had a test drive in an Octy, I thought the rear vision was a bit pants. So it really saddens me to see that an experienced Octy driver can still get it wrong. Hopefully it won

only problems have been in snow, which is understandable. Sorry to here JonnyC's woes and will bear in mind that they are not full proof - but so far I think they are great and are sved me a few emarrasbing moments, still being fair new to the DSG I have occasional slipped it into Reverse instead of drive when drawing out a parking space but have thankfully been alerted by the sensors in time.

Have any of the members had trouble with Reverse Parking Aid on Octy II?

My father-in-laws keeps bleeping for about 5 seconds even when nothing is there, however, mine takes the buscuit!

Yesterday morning I put it into reverse but there was not 'roger bleep' to indicate parking aid was in operation. Tried 2/3 times but no good. 5th time it operated. Later during the day, I was reversing, the park aid continued to bleep right up until I made contact with a skip scratching the bumper and chipping the tail lamp! There was no continuous tone at all. It works correctly at the moment but I'm sure the dealer will put the onus on me!!

I posted the above some time ago. At the time, other members basically said that I should have been using door mirrors etc. Having seen severs threads sincem it appears ta thhe reverse aids especially are prone to intermittant failure. dealer has since looked at the car and admitted that there was newer software for the head unit but that doesnt affect the sensors. I thought this a bit strange as the two do interact. there is definitely something amiss but dealers are not owning up.

PDC doesn't work on skips because of their shape. Have read other threads on here about it this.

Just spoke to the lad with the BMW I hit. A few light scratches to the bumper but he's not worried and isn't even sure that was down to me. I can now see why. The rest of the car has taken a few knocks since he got it but I couldn't see them because they were hidden by the dirt. If I had a 330d i'd take better care of it but hey i'm off the hook so happy days.

I have heard that high pressure washers can damage the sensors. If just one of the sensors is damaged the whoe system acts up.

Fair play to him for being honest.
