Turning off the Radio on Amundsen unit.

Featured Replies

I admit defeat, I'm usually pretty good with computery things given my profession etc.

However, I want to turn the radio on on my Amundsen unit (MY2017) then turn it off when I am bored of listening to it. However, I would like to leave the infotainment on so i can see a pretty picture of the car and MPG averages or play with the driving modes.

Obviously, turn the volume down - sound disappears!

Turn off using the button and the whole thing turns off.

my current work around is press 'media' then back to 'car' and i have silence and the nice picture of my car and my MPG averages.

but what I would love to know is, can you turn off the radio?

You can't.

Mute is the only way to go.

Or maybe change the audio source? This way you would not have to watch the frequency and station name :) Not sure if the Amundsen has an AUX/BT or similar input that could be used as "quiet" though.

As above, just reduce the volume of the radio. or change the source to AUX.

You can reduce the volume of the radio and still have sat nav commands via voice as that has its own volume control.

So the work around I found is the way to go then.

What a ridiculous design feature.

Depends which perspective you look at the head unit as... if you view it as a radio with features, yes i agree, however if you look at it as i do, its a computer with many features....

Its easy enough to just turn the volume down.

Oh how very philosophical really, yes the work arounds are there and easy to do. However, as a computer system 'infotainment' if you will.. I just want the info and not the tainment. Speaking from the perspective of someone who has designed computer systems it's a fairly obvious design fault. However, also speaking from the perspective of someone who has designed computer systems the work around is simple to implement.

We could start discussing that finding out these things as you are driving could prove distracting initially until you figure out the work around but let's not go there... many thanks for the responses!

Press the left roller (volume) on your steering wheel, and the audio mutes.
