rainsensor

Featured Replies

I have a fabia 3 and I repaced for the humidity sensor 8U0955559 teh rain sensor 5Q0955547A. Everything is set in VCDS as mentioned in a previous post on this site. A system check tells that the sensor is properly configured. And still it dosn' t work.

Does anyone have any idea why it will not work.

Cos it's not raining?

where is the sensor located? is it supposed to be just a swap of sensors and some coding to get auto wipers?

Do you not need a new wiper stalk? One with an auto setting? I'm sure on my old mk5 golf gti and R32 it had a special position for auto wipers, like there is an auto setting for cars with auto headlights

The rain sensor is switched on, when you set it to the periodic wiping, i.e., position 1

Thanks, but this was known.
In one way or another I'll get it with VCID not well coded.
Do you know a solution?

This is one area that I think could be clearer on the Fabia. My previous car popped a message up on the dashboard display stating that automatic wiping was active. There would be a permanent icon then stating this in the instrument cluster. There's nothing like this on the Fabia; there is no affordance to differentiate between a car with/without auto wiping until the wipers are on and working at their optimum.

Surprising, as VAG group are normally very good at this sort of thing.

This is how the VW group have controlled their auto wiping system across the brands for probably 20 years.

That might be the case, but my point still stands. Not criticising the system as such, but some sort of signposting that the auto wiping is activated wouldn't hurt.

This is true buddy but they don't even give a warning to let you know your lights are on these days!

There is a clue.

If there is rain on your windscreen or snow or just liquid and the wipers are not clearing the windscreen take action as the driver because you either do not have Auto Wipers or they are inhibited or switched off.

Sure .. and also,  I do like being able to do a quick scan of status - like checking the water temp guage, speedo, indicators, etc ...

A kind of - "is there anything I need to attend to?"

Having a dip beam indicator and an auto-wiper indicator seem like two that are just useful, for that quick scan of the dashboard while in traffic, without having to look down at light-switch or physically check wiper stalk.

For instance - there's the gear selected indicator - first time I've ever had one - and while it seems superfluous - I have become quite used to it now and refer to it quite a bit!! (Even though driving 5-speed manuals for 20 years - some part of my head still only goes to 4th gear!  I frequently check the gearlever that I've selected 5th !! )

So, if they can get the data for gear selection to a dashboard indicator, then why not the others - especially as the "signals" are already available nearby.

Anyway - jus' ma tuppence worth!!!

I love a heads up display especially with an autobox and paddles. (Nice on the MINI's)

Very handy when doing spirited driving to know where you are with 6 or 7 gears without looking at the dial area in the heat of the moment.

:D

Exactly! Glad it's not just me.

Had the first bit of properly heavy rain today since I've had the car... they were definitely functioning according to the rainfall but being a bit slow on the uptake, it has to be said. Wipers on my DS3 were quicker to act and sometimes 'over cleared' but I'm thinking that was probably ten best way to be ????

You can adjust the sensivity with the 4 stage switch on the wiper arm.

Yes I know that, the point I'm making is that the auto wipers should be that - auto. I shouldn't have to resort to the different speeds on the stalk.
  • 2 weeks later...

It's not different speeds- it's different sensitivity. My old Focus worked the same way too (when it worked!) and it meant that you could adjust it so it was more sensitive in misty conditions, which is better than the BMW system where it's either on or off.

Regarding the gear shift indication. Superfluous or not all new cars have to have it unless they are full automatic without a manual mode.

Personally I hate the popup on Peugeots I have to drive telling me the arutowipers are on or off. Mind you it is needed on them because the stalk doesn't stay in an intermittent / auto position.

They might all have it on the dash and near the dials, but when you are using the Paddles or even the stick and you might drop more than 1 gear it is nice seeing

the gear selected at eye level.

At NSL's it might not matter that much, and many autos are like the automated manual DSG's and ignore your command if the ECU / Brain thinks your selection will harm the box.

In driving many hundreds of thousands of miles in 3, 4, 5 and 6-speed manual cars I never once felt the need to have a gauge etc to tell me what gear I was in...even when driving 'spiritedly', and that back in the days when you really could let the car stretch its legs. The Volvo had a display as does the Fabia, but it's not something I really look at. Just me.

I never bother when i am changing a 7 or even a 6 speed DSG using the gearstick and never use the paddles but in a MINI which has only 6 Speed with the Auto the paddles are quite nice as is the heads up.

So if you dont have it you might not bother but there are reasons for it to be available and it is quite good in my experience.

Days where you really can stretch a cars legs still exist, you just need a Private Road, or maybe it is just the ones where Top Gear, Evo ect find that make 60mph look really quick & you can see for a long way that there are no camera vans etc.

PS

I have a S60 Auto daily driver and it just goes into D or R & sometimes 'W' is pressed and that is the only time i ever look at the Dash indicator to se the 'W' is showing.
