New owner with some questions! Picking up tomorrow!

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! So hopefully if all goes to plan I may soon be the proud owner of a Superb 2.0 TDi 170 SE DSG.

Looking around, it seems that the Bolero may or may not have Bluetooth. Am I right in thinking I need to check under the driver's seat for the Bluetooth module? If I were to upgrade to a Columbus and it does have Bluetooth is is just plug and play or will that need upgrading too? If it doesnt have it, I need to buy a Bluetooth module as well as a Columbus?

I've read that auto wipers can be programmed with VCDS, is that right? I'm losing so much stuff compared to my Optima but needs must!

Is there anything else to look out for? I had trouble shutting the boot when I had a look. It's a hatch and it just wouldn't properly shut. It's from a main dealer so I'm not too worried but anything else I need to look for.

I'm really excited, been away from Skoda for a few years but got into it and loved it!!

The bluetooth module is under the driver's seat, under a plastic cover. Easy to find if you push the seat back fully.

Bluetooth is a separate module regardless of what head unit is fitted.

A Columbus retrofit will require the head unit & GPS antenna, plus it will need coding to the vehicle with VCDS. A genuine one (one that isn't a stolen unit being resold) is not cheap either.

If it were me, I'd see if I had the extra cash to get an Elegance spec model - you'll have auto wipers and headlights as standard along with the Columbus.

The Elegance gains a huge amount of kit over the SE - if funds can stretch to it of course! Leather upholstery, electric & heated seats, adaptive xenons, 18" alloys, auto wipers and lights, Columbus navigation etc. Might work out cheaper in the long run, especially if looking to retrofit a Columbus. That can become a pricey exercise if you avoid the dodgy stolen units. I've had 2 Mk2 Elegances and the equipment level is excellent.

When referring to auto wipers, am I to assume you mean rain sensing wipers? If so, you'd need the rain/light sensor 'pod' to be fitted to the windscreen. If there's already one fitted, the rain sensing wipers should be there already. Sorry if I've misinterpreted what you said.

The Twindoor is known to suffer with wiring problems. Watch out for that.

If the hatch doesn't shut properly it might be a dodgy/misaligned latch mechanism or worse, the result of a previous shunt in the rear? I'd be poking around for signs of a repair.

I'll check the above points :) I'm sure it had auto lights.

I'd like an elegance but funds don't quite stretch!

Well, done the deal. Hopefully picking up next Tuesday. 2011 Mocha Brown 2.0 TDi SE DSG with flappy paddles!

Wheres the safest place to get a Columbus + Bluetooth module to avoid the stolen ones except the main dealers? I've also been looking at the aftermarket Zenecs etc, look to sync quite nicely with the rest of the tech in the car. I've had a zenec in a previous car and it was good but didn't integrate particularly well.

I have a couple of units in the shed ready for sale. I also have a Bluetooth kit on the way which I managed to get for a reasonable price.

I've found a brochure which shows the options available from 2011. My car has the optional 3 spoke steering wheel with paddle shift. Now in the brochure it seems to suggest there is the option of the wheel with no controls, and then an option for the wheel with radio and bluetooth (UHV + RSAP). Having looked at the pictures of the car, the steering wheel has controls with a phone on the right hand buttons...this indicates the car should maybe have Bluetooth. I've asked the dealer who have said it doesn't but these are the same people who also told me it didn't have paddle shift when it clearly did...

Were there multiple options for the 3 spoke wheel or am I misreading?

All Superb steering wheels (with buttons) have the telephone button. On cars without Bluetooth it mutes the radio.

The Superb is both a hatchback and saloon (otherwise known as the twindoor), unless of course it is an estate!

Opening via the keyfob or using the centrally positioned button on the boot itself opens it in saloon mode.

To open in hatchback mode you first need to press a second button (to the right of the central button), wait for the high level LED brake light to finish flashing and then press the central button.

I've read that auto wipers can be programmed with VCDS, is that right? I'm losing so much stuff compared to my Optima but needs must!

Auto (rain sensing) wipers can be enabled free of charge on the SE by simply ticking a box using VCDS.

The sensor is already on the windscreen as it is used for the standard auto (tunnel) lights.

I'm not sure how the specs work in the UK but in NZ you could have 'bluetooth phone' on Bolero, with 'bluetooth streaming' being another option on top of that.

If you want bluetooth streaming just double check to avoid disappointment.

And, welcome, I'm sure you'll love the car after your Kia.

Tomorrow!!! Yay!

It doesn't have Bluetooth so I'm going to have to save for Columbus and Bluetooth setup haha!!

I'd get an android head unit with built in bluetooth that fits the car instead of paying 2 or 3 times as much for the 10 ish year old Columbus.

For the bluetooth check out camelectric.com if you are in his region. He is based in Yorkshire but came over to Manchester to fit mine.

Or rustynuts on here. I bought one from him for the Fabia. Excellent service and very friendly.
