Dont forget this is a concentrated source of issues. Many people who run thier Skodas quite happily all year with no issues arent online nor care about posting things on forums to say how faultless thier car is.

However a person with a few gremlins in thier system is more likely to research if its common etc.

Boils down to it being alot easier to find fault than to praise.

Im on my third Skoda now and have very little in the way of faults with any of them, certianly nothing major anyhow (touch wood).

I have done at least 45,000 miles in 3 octavias over the past 5 years and another 4,000 in my superb and so far (touch wood) the only thing, apart from normal servicing, that has been done to any of them is a recall a few years back for a non serious brake update, so I can honestly say mine have been very reliable.

Reliability is affected if the cars are tuned or fettled with in some way but then you would expect that, use any thing harder and it will wear out quicker!

Most people tend to visit forums like this when they have problems or are searching for a new car, there are many thousands of Octavias etc. driving round with no problems with drivers oblivious to this forums existance. I wouldnt worry about it

I guess you've been looking at my recent threads ;) My Octavia has been remapped and thrashed for the last 16,000 miles. It has now covered 91,000

Well mines an unmolested 4x4 and its just cost me £350 to get the central convenience controller fixed, but then I'm just having a moan, so its not probably representative of all Octy owners
