Trickling liquid sound when turning off

Featured Replies

Octavia 1.9Tdi SLX with Climate control.

Hello, I've noticed that sometimes when I switch the ignition off, you can hear the sound of trickling liquid (like when you are outside and someone is running a tap - it's the noise of the water coming out of a drainpipe and into the grid). The sound comes from the front nearside.

I've opened the engine bay, but haven't managed to see anything leaking (coolant level is fine), but there are signs of dampness in the bottom of the engine bay. I've got a tissue on it, and it doesn't smell and isn't coloured, so I was guessing just water.

Anyway, question is, is the noise anything to worry about? I have a few ways of thinking:

a) The climate control takes moisture out of the air and dupms it out when you switch the engine off

B) The dampness is just moisture from the road or condensation from the engine

c) It's just a noise that is made when water is going through the system anyway, that you wouldn't hear when driving.

Anyone got any idea? I'm sure someone will tell me this is normal, it's just I've never driven a diesel or a car with climate control before.

The noise and dampness are associated with use of the airconditioning and are normal.

Thank you for putting my mind at rest.

remember to get the rain gutter under the shroud at the foot of the windscreen cleaned out of old leaves etc otherwise the pollen filter and fan can flood if the drain holes get blocked. I had a problem of a sloshing noise like I was at Sea (I wasnt) water had built up and was sloshing around this trough and eventually came into the car. It should have been cleaned out by the dealer at service but wasnt but obviously they are never at fault!!

I undo the plastic trim in the wheel arch and clear from the bottom as well....
