2.0 tfsi idle shake "a different idea?"

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've read quite a lot into this problem that the tfsi has and mine has it too

Could be plugs/diverter valve/pcv valve/coil packs or carbon build up in the intake but I've had a different thought today

You see, like a fool when I was purchasing the car I took the dip stick out when it was running (no idea why) and the car stuttered and spluttered like hell was wrong until I put it back in, I guessing because of pressures or air getting in

Now, today I checked my oil only to find a seal on my dipstick just completely fell off, would it make sense if it was a gap of some sort in the dipstick that causes a Missfire type symptom? Small enough to not notice at first but large enough when it gets hot will expand slightly and cause a pressure difference to give a cough?

I can eliminate dv, pcv and coil packs from the list

Just a thought, opinions?

Try taking the dipstick out totally and sealing the dipstick pipe with your thumb or something and see if that makes the engine idle normal. If it does you will know you need a new dipstick

On the TSI, you'll know if the seal has gone, because the RPM will fluctuate all over the place on idle.   I had all sorts of errors and RPM changes when the garage hadn't plugged it back in properly.

I'll try this when it starts idling rough after a journey so I know the problem is there, I don't drive it often enough to trigger it these days

Just following on from what you said I had a look at my dipstick and the orange plastic has cracked and Brocken away on mine!

So my little rubber seal is not sealing :/
