A bit of ICE help please

Featured Replies

Current MK2 L&K (63 plate) has iPod connected to Columbus via MFD cable.

I'm looking to change to a MK3 but cant find any mention of MFD cable for connecting iPods etc.

Any one know if this is still an option or am I now stuck with Bluetooth or AUX in ?

Also

Present Columbus has option to establish a localized in car WiFi network using rSAP from phone. I see in the MK3 brochure an option of Premium WiFi with separate sim cards etc - does this mean I cant establish same WiFi network on MK3 unless I go for the Premium option ? If I can then whats the point of the premium option ?

I asked my dealer and they were unable to tell me - said they were waiting for training on the ICE systems.

Very confused here ?!?!

Just taken delivery of my S3 after selling on my S2 which had iPod connection cable in the jumbo box.

I have connected my iPod to the new car via the USB port in the centre console and it works fine.

However I'm now using Apple Music (3 months free at the moment) and it's brilliant. Just ask Siri what you would like to listen to.

You mean the MDI connection with the different optional cables? It's defunct.

Just plug your iPod into the USB socket located in the "phone" compartment.

There is now far more control and a far better display than with MDI.

The only drawback is you only have one USB, so either iPod or Phone.

Before non-UK people tell you otherwise, the UK spec only has one USB connection.

I've got a standard SE L, with Columbus head unit and you can establish a wifi network. You don't need the Premium Wifi option.

You can connect the car to a Wifi network in order to stream content (vids, music, pics). I've streamed music from my home network just as a test.

Not figured out why or how you'd need to connect the car to the internet, but someone may post.

Thanks all, I knew you'd come up trumps !

Sorry, yes MDI. Not sad to see it go, it didn't give great control.

In car WiFi / internet is great as all passengers can connect to internet with tablets etc that may not have 4G comms.

Am I correct in thinking that rSAP is still used for phone connection and thus the car boosts the phone signal through its own electronics ?
