Water pump and timing belt replacement cost

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've looked around for an answer to this but not found any recent discussions on it. I have a 2009 (59 plate) Octavia MkII 1.4 TSI which has recently developed a bit of a worrying engine noise. I took it into Citygate Skoda in Colindale and have been told water pump is leaking and needs replacement. (I've read on here that this does tend to be an issue). Have been quoted £485 (incl VAT) for replacement of water pump and timing belt.

Do you think that's reasonable/bonkers?

Ta,

Reuben

I paid about the same for my VRS. Was happy enough with it for a main dealer.

Thanks both, that's very reassuring

Yeah that looks like a good dealer price, particularly in London.

I thought the 1.4 TSI has a chain rather than a belt? and does not need changing unless it is rattling or stretched

You are correct wiilydog, the 1.4TSI engine in the OPs car does indeed have a timing chain. The water pump is driven off the auxiliary belt.

Maybe the dealer thinks it has a belt and has quoted directly off the fixed price list rather than doing some investigative work and pricing the job correctly.
