Strange development on long term mpg indicator

Featured Replies

I've had my SE Business 2.0 TDI for about 7 months and ever since it was delivered the long term mpg indicator has slowly crept up from about 48 to 52.4 mpg. Not that I'm anal about the mpg but I was enjoying the fact that my previous diesel car struggled to manage 45+ mpg for my regular use which involved a daily commute of about 8 miles and a bit of weekend longer drives. The SIII is a big old barge and getting 50+ to the gallon in my books was impressive.

Anyway yesterday I noticed it's suddenly jumped to 64.7 mpg on the long term indicator, not sure if it's related to the fact that it's just tippped over 8.5k and it has reset itself or it's had a dicky fit. I don't think I've adjusted anything in the settings or driving style, journeys are the same and it's a manual which I usually drive in eco mode. But if it's accurate it's mighty impressive, anybody else experienced this??

Check the corresponding mileage count as that will show if it has reset itself due to elapsed time or mileage limit.

IIRC there's three: 'Since start', 'Since refuel' and 'Long term'. If the 'Long term' mileage is pretty low, it has reset itself.

The first time mine did it I thought that I was actually going to see the much vaunted mpg figures. That lasted all of three days and then it wound down to to what it usually is - 43mpg even after 15,000 miles.

It resets at 99 hours i think back to zero for all factors on the long range.

Mine is currently at 38mpg due to it doing this.

Thanks for the responses, but 3 days later it's now reset itself and gone back down and seems to have settled at 52.7 long term. I still can't complain for my average commute the engine is barely warm at this time of the year and on longer runs its easily early 60's
