Best Petrol Yeti for towing

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently have a 1.4 tsi Octavia. I am looking to change to a 2nd hand Yeti early next year, (max 3 yrs old).

I am a bit "anti diesel" at the mo, (appreciate they make the best tow cars).

Just wondering what is the best Petrol engine Yeti to use for towing a smallish caravan?

Does anybody tow with the 1.4 engine?..love this engine in the octavia, but is it a bit "weak" for towing?

Would love the 1.8 petrol but understand that they have had some "major" problems with this..and they stopped making them after about 2012?

Any help / advise appreciated..thanks

I have a 1.4tsi L&K and have recently bought a Sprite Freedom 6 caravan.

Other than the trip back from the dealers we have so far only had one trip but that was from Manchester to Cornwall, then south and north Devon and back home.

The car towed faultlessly and I am a novice tugger.

Averaged 26mpg on the way home and I was very pleased.

There is a blue 1.4 13 reg for sale at 'Patons'  in Shifnal looks a nice vehicle.

Depends which 1.4 TSi you're talking about.  The engine in the Yeti for sale mentioned above is the "old" 1.4 122bhp, which I dare say may not be ideal for towing.  The new 1.4 TSi 150 is a very different proposition, and I should imagine you'd have no problem at all using it for towing (as per GreenLineIIEstate's account above).  In order to get hold of the newer engine however, you'd need to be looking at a facelift car from (I think) at least 2015.
