service time...

Featured Replies

Ok, the Octy is now at 80k ish and requesting a service. The log book says it is on variable servicing. So far it has been serviced as:

25k - 06/2002 (20k service type)

49k - 10/2003 (40k service type)

59k - 08/2004 (20k service type)

I see it has two sections for oil, 'Oil changed (Haldex coupling)' and 'Oil Changed Service'. What is the Haldex Coupling???

Brake fluid was last done in Oct 03, so I guess I should do that again, and change the air filter as well, and the diesel filter as well...

Does the variable bit mean I have to use some fancy Skoda oil?

Cheers!

Matt

Yep you have to use SLX2 oil (or anything meeting 506.01) if you want to remain on variable servicing.

Haldex is for 4WD.

80k will be a full service (40k type) and a cambelt and tensioner.

You will also need diag equipment to reset the service light if not going to dealer.

It has already had the cambelt done at the 59k service, so I guess that things have got a bit confused along the way! Looking at the service book, it says every 40k for the cam belt..... so I guess it slight funny servicing schedule it wants it changing at 100k...... At least come cambelt time, Haynes will have published a book for it!

Cheers,

Matt

Cambelt on the TDi is

60k <02 MY

80k >02 MY

And 100k on latter ones.

PD's are 80k iirc.

Arh... yes - your spot on, I mis-read the petrol 40k service for cam belts, where as the diesel is marked in a 60k (2001[Y] 110 TDi).

Looks liked I am saved that trouble for a while. My father and brother have just been fighting with the cambelt on my old 306HDi (sold it to my brother when I got the Octavia).... no Haynes manual and no timing marks, and it was a pig to get the cambelt covers off (one screw hiding out of sight!). Looks like I sold that on just in time!!

Cheers,

Matt
