car has always run fine.then tonight after a 3 mile journey to my parents,got back in the car to go home epc light and engine light came on,car sounded ruff likes it running on 3 cylinders smells of unburnt fuel and no power  even when i press the pedal to drive,used a cheap code reader just to see of i could remove the lights,engine light goes out but esp light stays on and car still has no power.i have not had time to check as it was late and dark.any help on what it could be before i take a look would be a great help as there seems to be quite a few different problems with the same fault

sorry should say ecp fault in tite

it sounds like a coil pack has given up,thats what happend on my old mk1 vrs 1.8t it ran on 3 cylinders and went into limp mode,did you get a fault code ?  

I don't condone piracy but there's VCDS copies on fleabay for around £40 (or £300 for genuine).

They work great and stop the guessing game when it comes to fault lights being lit.

i have the fault codes and they all seem to point to the throttle body if some one know"s if they think it could be the problem before i go and buy a throttle body
